Raising Refugees' living standards - Report 11
By Narcy Irad | Project Leader
Year in year out, Tushirikiane (TUSA)- Community-based Organization continue to accompany its members in different areas including education, livelihood, social-pastoral support and income-generating activities. The focus has been put on the last one area, namely income-generating activities as this is believed to be key to sustainability and self-reliance of both the organisation and the members. Even the project "Raising refugees'living standards falls in this category. This is the kind of projects aimed at making members self-reliant in the long run and helping them be able to be self-sufficient financially. In this regard, Tushirikiane is putting in place a mechanism of making members help one another through the establishment of self-help groups. Four pilot self-help groups have been established and will be soon funded to start their businesses and more will be established. These groups are embarking on long-term income-generating activities like chicken rearing.
As far as this particular project is concerned, Tushirikiane has been able to raise 1815 USD on GlobalGiving Platform and 1324.54 USD has been disbursed so far. With this disbursed amount, Tushirikiane has been able to funds 6 projects with Ksh 145,000 (Ksh 130,000 from GlobalGiving Donations, plus Ksh 15,000 from a third party). However, in the course of the last 4 months, no new project has been funded and we are trying to see the best way to approach our former members so that they can also be part of the funding team.

TUSA Women and income-generating activities
In the course of these 3 months since the posting of the last report in February, Tushirikiane (TUSA)- Community-based Organization has gone on with all its activities and is still focusing on projects aimed at sustainability of its members through income-generating activities, the category of assistance under which this project "Raising refugees'living standards falls. This is the kind of projects aimed at making members self-reliant in the long run and helping them be able to be self-sufficient financially. In this regard, Tushirikiane is putting in place a mechanism of making members help one another through the establishment of self-help groups.
However, in this period, Tushirikiane did not fund any new project under this project, though it has under some other project funded some other donors.
As the donations stand by now, Tushirikiane has been able to raise 1596 USD, which was topped up with an amount of 190 USD driven by GlobalGiving and 29 USD received as additional grants and funds. The total received so far is 1815 USD, out of which 1324.54 has been disturbed and has been used to fund the 6 projects mentioned above, for with an amount of Ksh 145,000. We hope and believe the project will continue to grow and contribute to Tushirikiane's objective of making its members self-reliant through income-generating activities. We are also planning to put more effort by encouraging our former members, in particular those who resettled abroad, donate through this platform so that they can given back to the community.
