PROGRESS REPORT

By Sano Mashako | Project leader.

Njiwa ya Amani (Kayole)
Njiwa ya Amani (Kayole)

This report will give an update on the achievements made for the months of December, January and March. Upon formation of 13 self help groups, there have been visits to monitor and educate them on how to run a self-help group. In Rongai, one group even managed to register their self help group, now they are officially recognised by the government. This year, the organisation is focusing on strengthening the capacity of women, especially those in business. That is why, since the year began, TUSA has supported women in Kayole (Njiwa ya Amani) in procuring raw materials for their businesses and providing a market for them.

Challenges.

  • Women in TUSA continue to face limited access to capital and finances. This has resulted to slow growth in their business.
  • Over 60% of households in TUSA are led by women who are also the sole breadwinners in their families. In their day-to-day activities, some of these women are faced with insecurities where their stock is stolen, and sometimes others put themselves in situations where they are sexually assaulted and harassed.

Way forward.

Even with limited resources, TUSA will continue journeying with these women to ensure that they have created sustainable and profitable businesses for themselves and their households. This is going to be achieved through:

  • Empowering 13 self-help groups formed by women in business. Each group will be given a seed capital of USD 800. This will act as a revolving fund for these groups to aqcuire capital.
  • Focusing on marketing and digital marketing for women.
  • Education on financial literacy and record keeping.

Conclusion.

We are urging GlobalGiving to support us in securing funds for this project because we believe it will impact the lives of many.
