Economic empowerment to 100 refugee women

This year, Tushirikiane (TUSA)- Community-based Organization has pursued its activities to provide assistance to its members, giving priority to the most vulnerable. This year, Tushirikiane has in particular focused its assistance on income-generating activities and sustainable projects to self-help groups. It has of course continued providing assistance in areas of education, livelihood, social-pastoral support. More emphasis has been put on projects as we believe this is the best way to help members in a sustainable way, as they are provided with funds to start more sustainable income-generating activities. The project "Raising refugees'living standards falls also in this category. This is the kind of projects aimed at making members self-reliant in the long run and helping them be able to be self-sufficient financially. In this regard, Tushirikiane is putting in place a mechanism of making members help one another through the establishment of self-help groups. Five pilot self-help groups have been established and have been funded to start their businesses and more will be established.

As far as this particular project is concerned, Tushirikiane has been able to raise 1815 USD on GlobalGiving Platform and 1324.54 USD has been disbursed so far. With this disbursed amount, Tushirikiane has been able to funds 6 projects with Ksh 145,000 (Ksh 130,000 from GlobalGiving Donations, plus Ksh 15,000 from a third party). These projects are running and are doing well. As no funds have been received in the course of the previous three months,  no new project has been funded and we are trying to intensify our fundraising strategy to get more funds.

We appreciate the efforts of those who were able to donate for the sake of this project and they have done a great job to help the beneficiaires start income-generating activities.
