U&I Academic [Maths & Science] Support Program

By MANJARI GUPTA | COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

Program Overview

The U&I Academic Support Program has been implemented as a structured educational initiative aimed at enhancing learning outcomes among students in Grades 8, 9, and 10. Delivered with the support of 30 dedicated volunteers across the year, the program focuses on strengthening core academic competencies, with particular emphasis on Mathematics and Science.

Academic Focus Areas

Mathematics

Mathematics sessions were designed to build strong foundational understanding and improve analytical and problem-solving skills among students, particularly in Grade 8. The sessions followed a structured approach involving concept explanation, guided practice, and application-based problem solving.

Students were encouraged to actively engage with the content, leading to improved confidence, accuracy, and logical reasoning abilities. The consistent reinforcement of concepts contributed to better preparedness for academic assessments.

Science

Science sessions were conducted for Grades 9 and 10, focusing on strengthening conceptual clarity and reinforcing key curriculum topics. The sessions adopted an interactive and student-centric approach, enabling learners to actively participate in discussions and deepen their understanding.

Efforts were made to simplify complex concepts and relate them to real-world applications, thereby enhancing comprehension and retention.

Reach and Participation

The program maintained consistent student engagement across multiple sessions. Recorded participation included 29, 38, and 18 students in different sessions, reflecting sustained interest and involvement. Students demonstrated active participation, curiosity, and a willingness to learn, contributing to a positive and effective learning environment.

Impact

The U&I Academic Support Program has contributed significantly to improving students’ academic performance in Mathematics and Science. Through continuous mentoring and structured academic support, students have shown:

  • Enhanced conceptual understanding
  • Improved problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Increased confidence in approaching academic challenges

The program has also fostered a disciplined and supportive learning environment, encouraging consistent academic engagement.

SDG Alignment

The program aligns with the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • SDG 4 – Quality Education: Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities by providing structured academic support
  • SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities: Bridging educational gaps by supporting students who require additional academic assistance
  • SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: Leveraging volunteer engagement to deliver impactful educational interventions

Conclusion

With the sustained commitment of 30 volunteers and a focused approach towards Grades 8, 9, and 10, the U&I Academic Support Program has successfully strengthened core academic competencies among students. The emphasis on Mathematics and Science has enabled learners to build a solid academic foundation, supporting their overall educational development and long-term success.
