Programme Overview

The four-day robotics camp at Ashwini Charitable Trust provided students with an opportunity to develop foundational skills in robotics, coding, design thinking, and problem-solving through a hands-on learning experience. The programme was delivered by Dream Kit trainers and culminated in a Battle Bots competition, enabling students to apply their learning in a practical and collaborative setting.

Learning and Engagement

Students were guided through the process of designing, building, coding, testing, and refining their robots. Grouping participants by age enabled the trainers to adapt the pace and complexity of activities to different learning levels. Younger students demonstrated strong curiosity and energy, while older students progressed more quickly through technical concepts.

The hands-on nature of the programme encouraged students to ask questions, collaborate, experiment, and develop their own solutions. The microcontroller was a particular point of interest, as students could immediately see their code translated into movement and functionality.

The final Battle Bots competition provided an opportunity for students to apply their learning, test their designs, and work together as teams. Seeing their own robots operate in the arena provided a tangible outcome to the building and coding process.

Creativity and Problem-Solving

Creativity and experimentation were embedded throughout the programme. Students were encouraged to explore different robot designs, develop strategies, troubleshoot challenges, and improve their solutions through testing and iteration.

The Battle Bots format brought together technical learning with teamwork and problem-solving, allowing students to experience the process of building, testing, learning from setbacks, and improving their designs.

Programme Delivery

The programme was supported by an established curriculum and continuous guidance from Dream Kit trainers. Minor technical challenges with the laptops provided were addressed by the team through the use of personal devices and mobile hotspots, ensuring minimal disruption to the sessions.

Partner Perspective

“This is our fourth year collaborating with Ashwini Charitable Trust, and it has always been a joy working with the students. Seeing their curiosity, enthusiasm, and eagerness to learn throughout the four days is what keeps us coming back year after year.”

Looking Ahead

The continued collaboration between Dream Kit and Ashwini Charitable Trust reflects the value of sustained access to experiential STEM learning. Future programmes could be strengthened through the assignment of a dedicated master trainer to support coordination, communication, and overall programme delivery.
