R.O.A.R. Partners Update September 2015

Dear R.O.A.R. Supporters,

In the five years we have hosted ANIMAL PLANET’S R.O.A.R. (Reach Out. Act. Respond) matching campaign, we have never seen such a tremendous outpouring of support. We are happy to report that all $100,000 in matching funds were claimed after the campaign had been live for only three hours. Your generosity means the projects that benefit from the fund will be better able to carry out their important work helping animals around the world.

The matching funds may have run out, but there are still opportunities to win bonus prizes until October 12, 2015 (23:59 EDT)! ANIMAL PLANET will donate five bonuses of $4,000 each for the following:

Project with the highest dollar amount raised between September 14, 2015 (09:00 EDT) and October 12, 2015 (23:59 EDT). The EQUUS Foundation is our current leader with $45,140 raised in donations and $43,025 in matching funds!
Project with the highest number of unique donors between September 14, 2015 (09:00 EDT) and October 12, 2015 (23:59 EDT). The Jane Goodall Institute is our current leader with 232 unique donors!
Project driving the most traffic to the campaign between September 14, 2015 (09:00 EDT) and October 12, 2015 (23:59 EDT).
“Loudest R.O.A.R.” (Judges’ choice for overall participation and efforts).

Updates on the R.O.A.R. Fund partners:

Jane Goodall Institute – with 232 unique donors, their project Help Feed Over 150 Orphaned Chimpanzees has raised $23,323 in donations and$10,620 in matching funds to date. The Jane Goodall Institute is our current leader for the $4,000 unique donors bonus prize!
Petfinder Foundation – with 82 unique donors, their project Save Sick, Injured and Abused Homeless Pets! has raised $4,143 in donations to date.
David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation – with 42 unique donors, their project Help save tigers in the wild has raised $1,650 in donations and $100 in matching funds to date.
EQUUS Foundation – with 25 unique donors, their project Can You Make A Horse Smile? Here’s How... has raised $45,140 in donations and $43,025 in matching funds to date. EQUUS Foundation is our current leader for the $4,000 highest dollar amount raised bonus prize!
National Wildlife Federation – with 18 unique donors, their project Adopt A Wildlife Acre has raised $33,260 in donations and $19,245 in matching funds to date.
Villalobos Rescue Center – with 8 unique donors, their project Treat Pitbulls Suffering From Heartworm Disease has raised $210 in donations to date.
Earthwatch Institute – with 7 unique donors, their project Tracking Wolves in Canada With Earthwatch has raised $28,010 in donations and $27,010 in matching funds to date.
GlobalGiving – with 7 unique donors, our project R.O.A.R. Fund - Reach.Out.Act.Respond. has raised $325 in donations to date.

R.O.A.R. Partners Update May 2015

National Wildlife Federation- Bighorn lamb and ewe

This spring has truly been a season of renewal for the well-being of the animals that our R.O.A.R. project partners support. Take a look at what some of our project partners have recently accomplished.

Petfinder Foundation recently introduced Emergency Medical Grants reserved for pets suffering from severe illness or injury. Thanks to this new type of grant, a three month old puppy, Fergus, who had previously gone five days with an untreated broken femur, received treatment and has since been adopted. Similarly, thanks to the grant, Grace survived numerous injuries, from being hit by a snow plow. "All she can do is wiggle and kiss you," WCHS Community Relations Coordinator Debra Block tells us. "This girl is the epitome of why we do what we do! Your grant has made all the difference."

The National Wildlife Federation’s most recent Adopt-A-Wildlife-Acre work has focused on resolving conflicts between bighorn sheep and domestic sheep that graze on public lands in Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. Domestic sheep frequently harbor a type of pneumonia that is easily transmitted to bighorns and often results in large-scale die-offs. At the end of April, NWF completed two important grazing retirement agreements in southeastern Idaho that will significantly reduce the disease risk that bighorn sheep face in that area.

Jane Goodall Institute continues to support chimpanzees like Motambo who spent his first 12 months in the sanctuary recovering from some of the worst injuries the staff had ever witnessed. Fortunately, Motambo has now fully recovered and can participate in activities like excursions to the forest with his friend Mbebo. These trips to the forest are important as they enable the chimpanzees to get acquainted with their natural habitat while gaining strength and stamina.

To help save the wild tigers of Assam, Jorba, a Belgian Malinois has been trained by David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation to track and detect wildlife products such as tiger and leopard skin and bones, bear bile, ivory and rhino horn. Thanks to his amazing sense of smell, Jorba has been picking up the scent of poachers and helping to bring the poachers to justice. “Jorba is making a huge contribution towards controlling wildlife crime, sending a strong message to poachers and smugglers that we have increased our efforts to track them down,” reports project director Bibhab Talukdar.
