Nestled in the midst of a heritage site in a verdant environment in Panchsheel Park is VIDYA’s primary school, Bal Vihar. The educational experience at Bal Vihar is challenging, exhilarating, and sometimes even euphoric. Based on the perception that every child is unique, Bal Bihar provides a conducive, enabling educational environment based on a curriculum designed to accommodate different learning styles nurtured in the ambit of multiple intelligences. The entire educational ecosystem has been reimagined and redesigned to foster a love for learning for the sake of learning. We encourage our students to be out-of-the-box constructive thinkers, inspired to explore their world, ponder over their thoughts, develop a spirit of enquiry and be lifelong learners. The curriculum has been reconceptualised to make it experiential and stimulate autodidactic learning. At VIDYA, we believe learning is collaborating with others, solving problems, critical thinking, and developing communication and leadership skills.

Early last year, COVID-19 threw our plans off gear, albeit for a short while. VIDYA’s team's pan India were galvanized to integrate technological tools in the teaching–learning process. In a short span of time, the classroom interactions were digitized, and e-learning platforms introduced to ensure continuity of learning. We ensured that our children do not dropout, remain physically and mentally healthy, maintain a positive outlook and emerge stronger from the crisis.

For the academic year 2021-22, we are further revising our pedagogy in compliance with the New Education Policy 2020. Artificial Intelligence will alter the face of education in the years to come. Going forward, we are keen to blend technology with the teaching-learning process for improving learning outcomes. This would also help us to prepare our students to be productive members of the fast-evolving global society.

The future always remains unseen, but whatever the future unfurls, one factor that will remain constant will be the significance of sound education based on knowledge and values. This epitomizes the philosophy of schooling at VIDYA Bal Vihar.

VIDYA in the last 36 years of its journey has achieved many milestones and attained great heights, from teaching 5 girls in 1985 in the Founder's home in IIT Delhi campus to 79 projects for children, youth and women in the areas of education and skill development in Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai and Bangalore. Last year was not only turbulent, to say the least, but also the evolving situation forced us to change the way we think, plan and strategise our work. There were many challenges, not only the survival of our projects but also the health and safety of our beneficiaries, and providing them with resources, tools and support to overcome the crisis.
VIDYA is a family. It was about being there for our beneficiaries in this difficult time of their lives. VIDYA worked tirelessly to ensure that we are the shoulder they could lean on any time. We regularly distributed essentials and other equipment, organised workshops, sessions, one-on-one counselling, activities and webinars to help everyone weather the pandemic with positivity and courage.
Our work continued unhindered, and we kickstarted new initiatives. The schools' and NIOS bridge course students successfully completed the academic session on digital platforms, we opened a Centre of Excellence, Dunmore House in Bangalore, digital empowerment was introduced in all the projects in Mumbai, and Green School project initiated in Gurgaon. We even organised virtual pan India events. There was enthusiastic participation of students, women and staff in Sanskriti, an online prose, poetry and art competition, and FESTx, a STEAM event replete with posters, presentations, videos, exhibits and 3-D models.
You are an important part of VIDYA. Your support and help has allowed us to continue the work we do, and get us through these challenging times. Thank you for being part of the VIDYA family.
With this report, we are glad to share with you that all our beneficiaries and team members are doing well.

A time to keep up the spirits and be positive...

A time to focus on success stories rather than dwell on the unfortunate ones.....

A time for self introspection and improvement...

A time well spent with family....

A time to care and share.....

Sharing the happenings through Voice of VIDYA from Bangalore.

Wishing you safe and healthy times ahead.

With more than half a billion internet subscribers, India is one of the largest and fastest-growing markets for digital consumers, and the rapid growth has been propelled by the public and private sector alike. India’s lower-income states are bridging the digital divide, and the country has the potential to be a truly connected nation by 2025. Much more growth is possible as India’s digital transformation unfolds, it could create significant economic value for consumers, businesses, micro-enterprises, farmers, government, workers, and other stakeholders
By many measures, India is on its way to becoming a digitally advanced nation. Just over 40 per cent of the populace has an internet subscription, but India is already home to one of the world’s largest and most rapidly growing bases of digital consumers. It is digitising activities at a faster pace than many mature and emerging economies.

To ensure this growth does not leave anyone behind, especially members of the lesser resourced communities, we at VIDYA are striving to not only bridge the digital divide but empower communities with the use of technology. This has become the reality like never before due to COVID-19 restriction. This issue of our latest project report will tell you all about it.
Please find the enclosed report.

Thanks.

Dear Esteemed member of VIDYA,

Greetings from the VIDYA family!

As we complete 35 years of Educating, Empowering and Transforming lives of  children, youth and adults in 2019-20, it is my pleasure to share with you our first E-Annual Report for the year 2019.

This year’s Annual Report is a testimony of the work VIDYA has done in the year 2019 and the teams across India working tirelessly with VIDYA’s spirit and ethos. In the same spirit, we had planned many new projects pan-India in the year 2020-21. However, COVID-19 has changed everything. People, globally, adapted, evolved and re-strategized like never before. We, too, pivoted our educational programs to remote learning, closed some of our community projects, distributed rations to our communities, engaged our women in mask making, conducted webinars and organized gadget donation drives.

Since many of our beneficiaries lack resources and many have lost their employment due to corona virus, we have an urgent requirement for smart phones / laptops / tablets for our students to be able to continue remote learning. I appeal to all of you to please donate your used smart phones / laptops / tablets to VIDYA for use by our less privileged children. We have also partnered with an organization, Budli.in in their Device to Dream campaign, wherein, old devices (working or defective) – smart phone, laptop or tablet – are collected free of cost from any location across India, and refurbished/monetized to enable education for underprivileged children. Please submit details of used device(s) you/your organization would like to contribute using the Budli link provided in the attachment.

The great heights we have achieved would not have been possible without you. We are truly grateful to all our well-wishers, donors and supporters for their kind donations and support through the years, during lockdown and beyond. You keep us going and help us achieve great heights!

More insights are in this report.

We hope you enjoy reading the stories of transformation and the impact of VIDYA through education, empowerment and transformation.

With Warm Regards,
Rashmi Misra
