PROJECT 54492. BUILD HEALTH FACILITY FOR 10000 PEOPLE IN ZAMBULKURA AREA IN GHANA
The people of Zambulkura and nine surrounding communities with a combined population of 10000 people lack easy access to quality healthcare services. The nearest health facility is the Baptist Medical Centre which is in Nalerigu town about 20km away from Zambulkura and 45km away from Sumanitinga community. In times of sickness or health needs community members from these communities must walk on foot to Nalerigu to access health care. Seriously sick people must be carried on improvise stretchers including pregnant women in labor to the hospital because the road network is not developed leading to delay in accessing healthcare services in Nalerigu hospital.
Since 2017, Rescue and Restore Hope Zambulkura Ghana (RRHZ) has been organizing Health Screenings in the communities such as, Zambulkura, Jarigitinga and Tichirigtaba among others as a temporal relief of which several thousands of people have benefited from testing and treating malaria, High Blood Pressure (BP), diabetes, deworming among other sicknesses. We have also carried eye screening and provision of free eyeglasses to those who needed them. But to solve the problems permanently we started the building of a 40-bed capacity health facility in phases at Zambulkura.
The first phase of two rooms has been built and roofed with funds raised through GlobalGiving and other sources of funds raised. But we are yet to raise funds to fix windows and doors, fix the ceiling and electrical wiring of the structure, plumbing works, and to acquire hospital equipment. Each of the 2 rooms will hold 8 hospital beds to serve as a female and male ward respectively.
The next phase is to build consulting room, a room to serve as a Laboratory, a medical store and dispensary, and the OutPatients Department. Additionally, staff accommodation is to be constructed to house the health workers. After the second phase, the facility will be open for operation before the phase three which comprise of the maternity, delivery and children wards will be added depending on the availability of funds. When the phase three is completed, the facility will serve the communities and relief the over stressed Nalerigu hospital and eliminate the frustrations the people go through to access health care. The health facility will serve as immunization and vaccination center. It will also serve as health education and health promotion point. organizing health screenings in hard-to-reach communities and contribute towards achievement of the Millennium Development Goals on health, reduce child mortality rates and improve maternal health, achieve universal Health coverage among others.
For us at Rescue and Restore Hope Zambulkura Ghana, we are very grateful to GlobalGiving for giving us the opportunity in your platform to reach out for the wonderful donors who generously donated to our project. This has made it possible for us to start the first phase of the 40-bed capacity facility. Together as partners in this project the people of Zambulkura, Jarigitinga, Tichirigitaba, Yunyoorantinga, Zamblugu, Sumanitinga among other surrounding communities with a total of 10000 people are moving closer to getting a health facility near them.
