Context
Since September 2025, Nepal has been experiencing political uncertainty. The election process is now in its final stage, with counting nearly complete. Former ruling parties have lost ground, and a new wave of political change is anticipated. Despite this transitional environment, our team has remained in close communication with associates in rural areas to ensure continuity of our work.
Planned Visit
In the first week of March 2026, Board Secretary Mr. Lebez Maharjan and member Mr. Nagendra Kumar, an ex-police officer, will travel to Chaughare ward of Konjyosom Rural Municipality, which comprises 21 villages. One of these villages, Ghurdum, hosts our project Our Study Place under Console Mission.
The purpose of this visit is to strengthen stakeholder relationships and deepen understanding of the area. Meetings will be held with:
- Ward office chairperson and team
- Health post staff
- Police station representatives
- Forest office officials
- Local political party offices
- Faith-based organizations
- Informal groups such as mothers’ groups
- Community health volunteers
- Schools
Challenges
Reaching Chaughare is difficult due to limited bus services. Travel takes about 2.5 hours, and seats are often prioritized for passengers traveling to the bus’s final destination. Once in the ward, visiting villages and stakeholders is further complicated by distance and terrain.
Local associates are supportive but face constraints in prioritizing education and sustainable development. Paid staff and female committee members are available, but their time is limited. Encouraging locals to accompany the team during the March visit is essential, both to fulfill our objectives and to help them learn how to build relationships for running the community learning center. However, hesitation and lack of awareness about shared responsibility remain obstacles.
Next Steps
1. Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships and gather insights during the March visit.
2. Community Outreach: Reach all 21 villages to share the importance of committee formation and its role in sustaining educational initiatives.
