Progress Overview
Console Mission continues to deepen its engagement in Chaughare Ward, a region composed of 21 small villages with varying household sizes. Our physical presence in Ghurdum and Ghongwa has enabled the formation of local “People’s Committees” — each with seven members, prioritizing female leadership and representation.
Ghurdum Committee: Female-led, with key positions held by women. The committee is actively involved in community learning and local mobilization.
Ghongwa Committee: Currently chaired by a young male with technical training in animal health. While capable, the team is working toward transitioning leadership to a female chairperson in alignment with our gender equity goals.
Key Mobilizer: Beklal Syangtan
During our recent visit to Ghurdum, we identified Mr. Beklal Syangtan — an adviser to the Ghurdum Committee — as a pivotal figure for outreach. His frequent travel between village and town (where our main office is located) positions him as a bridge to the remaining villages in Chaughare.
Beklal has been entrusted with supporting “Our Study Place,” a community learning center in Ghurdum.
He is also strengthening the Ghurdum Committee’s coordination and outreach capacity.
Challenges & Considerations
Financial Sustainability: The Chairperson of Chaughare Ward has expressed concern regarding monthly support for the individual managing this initiative. This highlights the need for consistent funding to sustain local leadership and outreach.
Leadership Transition in Ghongwa: While the current male chairperson is capable, we aim to establish female leadership in line with our criteria and mission.
Next Steps
Expand Beklal’s role to include outreach to additional villages.
Formalize support mechanisms for local coordinators, ensuring financial clarity and sustainability.
Facilitate leadership development workshops in Ghongwa to prepare female candidates for chairpersonship.
