IMPACT of Solar Lanterns in Rural Tanzania
IMPACT of Solar Lanterns in Rural Tanzania

The end of year and beginning of another year is always tough in rural Tanzania. It is time when people have no enough food - many people are starving. This is also affecting our solar lantern business. Even though our price is highly discounted due to the support we receive from our partners like you, yet many families were not able to purchase solar lanterns for their children in Dec, Jan, and Feb. We sold about 100 units only; equal to 100 children. We expect this situation to change from April onward.

Meanwhile, please consider the statistics of the IMPACT we made so far. Imagine how much people are loosing by not accepting this simple technology that has ZERO operation cost. CONGRATS to all our royal customers and partners.

Call for ACTION: Please kindly continue to support us - this time it is enough for us if you just "like" our facebook, twitter (available at www.gongalimodel.com), or share our stories with your friends and family or on your online networks, WhatsApp, blogs, when you are presenting somewhere (feel free to use our pictures and videos), etc ............ You never know on whose hands it may land!.....and we are beware of what we are asking, "WE MAY JUST GET IT"!

Gongali students turning OFF Kerosene Lamps
Gongali students turning OFF Kerosene Lamps

We are so excited that at last we have TURNED OFF the Kerosene Lamps in Karatu District on 20th Nov. 2016. This was a ground-breaking event attended by thousands of people and covered by about 10 Journalists from National TVs like TBC, ITV, Star TV, Radios, Magazine, etc.

Before the public address, students from 6 different schools made demonstrations/parade throughout Karatu Town to proclaim the celebration of TURNING OFF the Kerosene Lamps in Karatu District. This was a symbolic event benchmarking the end of OLD TECHNOLOGY of using Kerosene and BEGINNING of new era of using solar lanterns in Karatu District.

In total we have reached 1,750 school children in Karatu. Our plan is to IMPACT 10,000 children within 2017. The future of this project is brighter with serious commitment from various GlobalGiving donors like the lady in London (we keep her anonymous) who contributed up to GBP 1,000 in single donation that was also matched by 50% bonus from GlobalGiving. In fact we raised more than GBP 13,000 in single fund-raising season of few weeks that ended in Oct 2016.

With time, we are witnessing serious engagement of our partners and supporters world-wide. We are convinced for sure that the TIME HAS COME to end kerosene poisoning in rural Africa. Solar lanterns are increasing the convenience to students and academic improvement.

THANKS for your IMPACT. Please let us know how you would like to be involved at higher level, as you wish.

We are open-minded to partner with you - the need is so big with more than 20 million kids living in rural Tanzania. They all need light for study.

THANKS FOR YOUR RELENTLESS SUPPORT

This quarter was extremely exciting!

We made new records in our solar lantern initiative after the lattest generous fund-raising sponsored by GEV/GlobalGiving. We received 50% bonus which, beyond helping us discount solar lanterns, we have been able to send 10 students and 2 teachers from Edith Gvora High School in Gongali to attend the Science Exhibition at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) in Arusha, Tanzania. The funds enabled students to purchase facilities for practical demonstration at the exhibition plus other costs.

The exhibition was graced by high profile government leaders who were so proud to learn our humble commitment to serve communities in rural areas, particularly our commitment to young people. Our students demontrated how to MAKE SOLAR LANTERNS IN TANZANIA using locally sourced materials. As demonstrated in the attached photo (adults posing in photo with students in uniform), the Karatu District government leaders came to NM-AIST to see how our students are proceeding. They appreciated our effort and pledged to scale-up the project to cover more schools in Karatu District, beyond the Gongali Village.

We are so grateful to all our sponsors who supported us so far - and our future is brighter. With the current on-going fundraising, which also will receive 50% bonus, we expect to scale-up our activities to other villages in Karatu District. School children are in desperate need for the solar lanterns. We cannot afford to sit back until we remove all kerosene lamps that are harmful to children's health and are expensive and dangerous (many houses are being burnt down by forgotten lamps, candles, etc.)

THANKS FOR YOUR RELENTLESS SUPPORT

MADE IN TANZANIA! How I wished to see this mark on every item found in our shops in Tanzania! Now, through the sponsorship of GlobalGiving, its partners, and its generous donors my young brothers and sisters are enjoying this opportunity.

These are Edith Gvora School Children living deep in the rural village in Tanzania making solar lanterns to be used in their community. I wished someone gave me this chance when I was at their age! As you can see in the attached photos and videos, students and little kids demonstrate their love for science and innovation. They learn far better by ACTION than through memorizing books.

Our gratitude: We are so grateful to be given a golden opportunity to be selected for an exclusive matching opportunity specifically for our renewable energy work and funded by Global Village Energy Partnership (GVEP) - a GlobalGiving partner. GVEP is focused on accelerating access to energy for communities that lack modern energy services.  The campaign ran from February 17, 2016 until March 7, 2016 in which ten organizations were competing for 50% top-up matching fund from a total of GBP 10,000 that was set aside. We hit number two position after a fierce fundraising competition in which we fundraised USD 7,800. With these funds we bought solar lanterns that we are now selling to children in rural Tanzania at a subsidized price. Please kindly expect exciting updates through our future reports.

WE ARE SO GRATEFUL FOR YOUR RELENTLESS SUPPORT - ALL THE TIME!

Greetings from Tanzania

We are so proud of your previous support which enabled us to be selected to be part of a Renewable Energy campaign. Through this campaign new donations will be match by 50% until funds run (or 23:59:59 GMT March 7).

Our project is found here:  http://www.globalgiving.co.uk/projects/provide-solar-lantern-to-tanzanian-school-children/

We have been appreciated by the GlobalGiving for our provious success which is also presented on our website www.gongalimodel.com. We have also been able to couple our effort with planting trees - and promote environment protection through the children in our rural community - as you can see on the attached photo.

With your previous support we have been able to reach above 1,400 children with solar light for reading. This is a breakthrough in my life, because I was using kerosene lamp for studying when I was a little child in rural Tanzania. But now you may appreciate how much I am becoming “somebody” through education, and my effort to give back to my community; as you can see on our website www.gongalimodel.com.

Now my mission is to open doors to more Tanzanian kids to become like me. I am determined to be a ROLE MODEL for them!

Be assured that your continuous support is NOT a wasted money/resources. Please visit the link below and see the potentials for your support to the Tanzanian kids to receive a bonus of 50% extra. Please kindly involve your friends, family, and network to make our dream a reality. You may just share our project link with them and tell them our story and what it means to you PERSONALLY:  http://www.globalgiving.co.uk/projects/provide-solar-lantern-to-tanzanian-school-children/

MAY GOD BLESS YOU ABUNDANTLY!
