Onam is the most major festivals of we Keralites. It is one of the festival where we people unite despite of religion and caste which makes it a festival celebrated with secularism among the Keraites. Onam 2020 is so special for us as we haven’t observed the festival since 2018 flood which continued on 2019 as well. This year we face the pandemic which again prevent us from celebrating Onam in true means. But still being affected by lockdown the public as a relaxation technique has agreed to celebrate onam within the constraints because this festival provides a family feeling and a sense of belonging for each and every people from Kerala.
This onam will also be celebrated at Don Bosco, Trivadrum where we have most of the street children during the period of lockdown and has given shelter and nutrition. Onam is all about new beginning where we leave past miseries. The shelter home children also has a past which has lead them to the streets with no food shelter or clothings.
The donations we received from everyone through GlobalGiving which has amounted $206 has helped us in providing “Onakkodi” (New clothes which the Keralites receive on the day of Thiruvonam) for 18 children at Don Bosco shelter home. We sincerely express our gratitude for all the well wishers who has extended their helping hands for providing the children with new clothings and become part in their little happiness. Thanks to GlobalGiving and its donors for making the ONAM for these children colorful with new clothings.
