Deepak is a child rescued from the Trivandrum Central Railway station. Deepak is 6 years old and he was not able to walk. He was in the arms of his mother and both of them were begging on the railway platform. We found that the mother of Deepak was mentally ill and she too needed a shelter. She was produced before the district maqgistrate and was assessed and taken for treatment at a mental health centre.
Child Deepak was provided shelter at our shelter home. He needed help of other children for walking and even to eat food. He couldn't lift his hands. We took Deepak to a hospital and after a detailed diagnosis, he was found to be having bone tuberculosis. His bones were disintergrating, hence his neck also couldnot remain staraight.
It is four months since the arrival of Deepak at our shelter and presently he is running about and playing. His medication is for another 2 months.
The most happy moment in the life of Deepak was when she got a new pair of Shirt and Trouser for his birthday. It was the first time in his life and the joy on his face at that moment remains in time.
