Progress Report on Community Health Interventions.
By Jane Karanja | Project Coordinator.
Thank you for having being part of us in the year 2011. The project benefited 2,930 households of the 10,000 households from kokwa community in a big way. Bed nets were distributed to different households. Malaria cases decreased, and we attributed this to cleaner environments especially no breeding sites, capacity building for health workers, 5000 assorted seedlings including Neem were planted by the households, Kokwa Dispensary and neighboring schools, trees will not only act as mosquito repellants but form wood lots for future use as wood fuel to save on existing indigenous trees.
Through your kind donations we shall be able to provide all households with bed nets, build groups capacity in environment conservation and disease management and increase number of trees planted.
As we move on to 2012, we wish to recognize your efforts in changing lives, and we look forward for a bountiful 2012.

Progress Report on Community Health Interventions.

During the last months, the project has benefited the community through a number of initiatives. Two baraza’s (Informal forums) were held within the village and attended by the area administrators and 200 households on the importance of living in a clean environment, the aim of organizing these barazas was to create awareness and prepare the community in village clean up, clearing of mosquito breeding areas and disinfecting of ponds. The exercise was carried out successfully through community participation, and the village is now a better place to live in. Through group demonstration and trainings, the community is now aware of how to use neem leaves to repel mosquitoes, and also use neem powder to make herbal tea that is good for the body. Another 500 bed nets have been distributed to 100 families. The rains have been adequate, ensuring good crop production, which will result in improved food and nutrition security especially for the young children who were malnourished and suffering from malaria. We hope to distribute enough bed nets to all the households, and plant more neem trees, as we continue on capacity building of the groups, to ensure sustainability of the project. We wish to thank our donors for their continued support; we believe that together we can make a big difference.
