Childbirth is a dead sentence in South Sudan

By William Logai Ochieng | Executive director

Thanks for helping women in South Sudan
Thanks for helping women in South Sudan

Thanks for your long-term support to Stop Moms from Dying in Childbirth.

At a time of this reporting, your bucks and contributions from other sources, allowed Hope Ofiriha to provide a survival clinic with three birthing mats, four boxes cotton wool, and six boxes of syringes & needles.

The birth of a baby, which should be a joyful moment, too often brings agony for families in Omilling. Pregnancy and childbirth completions are the leading cause of death and injury for mothers in Magwi County. Yet, women are critical to the health and wealth of their villages. Without them, the family cannot hope to thrive. But with your help, we reduced the number of mothers dying while delivering in rural villages.

In South Sudan, a staggering one in 50 women dies in pregnancy or childbirth. In the Uk, it is just one in 8,000. While conditions such as high blood pressure, breech births are easily treated in the Uk, South Sudanese women are likely to die from them because they lack access to high-quality health care or a trained midwife. A skilled health worker attends only 21% of births in a World newest state.

Success stories:
My complicated pregnancy could have killed my baby or me and today someone would have been narrating my story. " I could have been a maternal death statistic which I stayed at home and sought the services of an untrained midwife. " mine was an experience I want other women to learn from.

" I do want any other woman to die while giving birth because Hope Ofiriha has put in place interventions that save lives.

In a next three months, we will be sending a new field update, so you get to know the impact of your contributions right from the ground.
