FFLV Clean India Drive

By Sri Radhika Dasi | Project Leader

Heaps of solid waste dumped around street cornersgarbage bins kept at various points..neither emptied nor cleaned& trash being burnt in open - causing pollution. There is no check on the garbage being strewn or consigned to flames releasing highly toxic pollutants into the air. This plastic pollution has been causing a great harm to the environment and animals especially the cows. Cows consume plastic along with the food they find in trash piles and being unable to digest it die in the streets. Disposing the garbage carelessly in drains and on the banks of Yamuna river has led to the clogging and stagnation resulting in waterborne diseases. The list of problems is endless but where is the solution? Cleanliness is not a matter of instinct, it is a matter of education, and like most great things, a taste for it should be cultivated. It plays a vital role in our lives so that all can lead a healthy life. To promote cleanliness, a very important campaign- Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan was launched by our honourable prime minister- Mr Narendra M\\odi. Recently, Food for Life Vrindavan organised a Cleaning Drive under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Vrindavan. The main purpose of this program is to create awareness among the students and the people regarding cleanliness and its benefits. The Sandipani Muni School girls cleaned the road that led to their school. Seeing the girls dedicatedly working hard, some of the locals also joined in and helped them in cleaning. Food for Life Vrindavan shall continue to organise this drive every Saturday and will endeavour to clean different areas in Vrindavan week by week. The cleaning drive continued for 2 hours, after which everyone assembled at the school. Thereafter, the girls had their lunch and shared their experience about the whole cleaning drive. It was a unique experience for all of them. They were all very proud to be a part of this program. "The clean person is not the one that runs away from dirt, but the one, who takes time to clean the dirty environment. And cleanliness is not meant for one person alone, it is meant for the whole humanity present on earth". - Kranti  (13 yrs) - Grade 8 "I got an opportunity to clean my city for the first time in my life. I am happy and thank my school for giving me this chance. I request everyone to keep their surroundings clean, just as they would keep their own houses. After all, Vrindavan is our home". - Radha, SMS (12 yrs) - Grade 7 "We have to take strong steps towards making our country clean. This is the first step that can take our country forward. Each and every one of us has to be conscious of maintaining cleanliness in our surroundings, which will encourage others to follow our foot-steps". - Sangam  (13 yrs) - Grade 8
