As the Government orders of no gathering of more than four people have literally stopped our evening khichri distribution, a vegetable stew with rice and lentils and the rations distribution is our best way of helping the most vulnerable; daily wage workers; cleaners; rickshaw drivers and all those who don't have any means of earning at the moment as their work has been suspended.

Within the months of April, May, and June Food Rations (monthly grocery supplies) have been provided to over 2250 families through the support of your generous contributions. Each family received 10Kg of wheat flour, 10Kg of rice, 2Kg of lentils, 2 liters of cooking oil, 1Kg of soya chunks, 1Kg of salt, 1Kg of sugar, few packets of biscuits and vegetables. The beneficiaries who are receiving this support are families of FFLV students with extreme financial difficulties, many single mothers as well as poor households of Vrindavan and nearby slums.

FFLV has distributed more than 40,000 Kilograms of Wheat flour/Rice, 4000 Kilograms of pulses, 4000 liters of cooking oil, 800 Kg of soya chunks, 2000 Kg of salt, 3000 Kg of sugar to 2250 families. The distribution took place within the 45 days cycle when each family got food support for one month.

Among 2250 families, recipients of this wonderful support system are the numerous families of our 1500 Sandipani Muni Schoolgirls, 300 families living below the poverty line in slums, and hundreds of daily workers, widows, and Sadhus. Many more are still on our waiting list…

Any act of kindness, no matter how small, it's magic and carries goodwill with it. A small contribution of just $25 / £20 per Ration will be greatly appreciated, Please donate now

Dear FFLV friends and supporters, we want to express our gratitude for all your donations towards the New Year Gift Festival 2020.

It was an extreme winter this year and after a long delay due to school closures, we have now successfully completed the yearly distribution of 5000 gift bags for the girls at Sandipani Muni School and the rest of the schools in the nearby villages. The first day of the festival took place on the 20th of January and lasted up to the 22nd of January 2020, with the gift bag distribution starting from Sandipani Muni Schools and then proceeding towards local government schools.

It was so amazing to see those happy and enthusiastic smiles while receiving gifts. The children were anxiously waiting for our teams to come to their school and receive their yearly treat, a gift of love and care. The NYGF 2020 carry bag was full of goodies such as peanuts, notebooks, candies, chocolate, stationery, toys, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, biscuits, etc.

Once again, we thank all our friends and contributors and hope that they will continue with their support next year in order for us to provide as many gift bags as we can to kids in need.

Winters in many parts of India can be very harsh, especially for the rural poor who don't have access to woolen clothing or cover. Every year many die due to such harsh weather. Basic amenities like warm water and blankets are not available for many. Though lasting for just 3 months in North India, what a small child has to face in winter nights is unbearable, when they hardly have even full-sized thin clothings to cover their bodies in wide open. No heaters, shelters, sweaters or blankets. Those who cannot face, die.

Since there are no central heating systems in a rural set up, to combat the situation, Food for Life Vrindavan distributed winter clothes in their three schools. Our FFLV USA President, Ineke Zondag, handed out the first distribution of winter clothes which included scarf, jacket, socks, and thermal wear, in Vrindavan. The children were delighted on receiving their new set of winter clothes.

A large number of students in our schools come from rural areas of Vrindavan where the buses can’t go to pick them up due to the lack of well maintained roads. Therefore, girls have to travel a long distance by walking or by using public vehicles such as rickshaws which constitutes an extra financial burden on them which also raises safety concern.

To facilitate the students and provide them with safety, FFLV has helped nine students with new bicycles. Riding own bicycles provides the girls with a sense of security, confidence and the independence to travel freely within their community and to the schools.

We recently organised a parent-teachers meet at the FFLV Schools and invited the parents of our school girls hoping to involve them more into their daughters’ education. The meeting was held to discuss about the students progress and performance at school.

There was a discussion between the parents and the teachers on their girl’s specific strengths and weakness in individual subjects and students discipline in classrooms.

We can see that the perception of society towards girl education is changing with every passing year. Parents are starting to take the education of their girls more seriously now. This was evident with the increase in the number of attendees(parents) to these meetings each year.

Parents expressed their happiness for having this opportunity to send their girls to school and to see the care taken by FFLV or the growth of their girls.
