The People of Araromi community takes full project ownership in project launch!
On the 29th September 2022, we officially cut the ribbon on the borehole project in Araromi community in a launch event graced by members of the community and their traditional rulers. The launch event followed a months-long process of planning, meetings with Local Government officials, fundraising and construction. The launch of the borehole project turned into a celebration for the usually downtrodden Araromi community, giving them an opportunity to express their gratitude to our donors for providing them with access to clean water for everyday tasks such as cooking, bathing, and washing.
To ensure the long-term benefits of the borehole to the community, the Adara Foundation team facilitated a conversation with members of the community to explore community ownership and long-term maintenance of the assets. It was agreed that the borehole will be managed by delegated community representatives with periodic monitoring and evaluation from the Adara Empowerment Foundation team. Some of the key takeaways from the discourse are as follows;
The commissioning event concluded with a ceremonial ribbon cutting and the handover of a power generator to the community to ensure continued access to water during power outages. The Adara Foundation is currently in the process of working with local vendors to construct additional boreholes and dispensary points for other parts of the wider Ajeromi-Ifelodun community.
