Potable water is now available in Araromi Community!
More than 2000 residents of the Araromi community in Ajegunle now have access to clean and potable water from two 2,500-litre reservoirs channelled through taps at a centralised dispensing point. To ensure 24-hour access to water, a pumping machine has been provided to power a 2.5kva generator in case of expected power outage in the community. The borehole will be managed by delegated community representatives with periodic monitoring and evaluation from the Adara Empowerment Foundation team.
Drilling for the submersible pumping machine commenced on the 22nd of July, 2022. The pumping is situated on firm/stable soil and about 150 metres away from the dispensing point to ensure the water maintains good quality and the supply remains constant through the dry season.
The journey to portable water in Araromi began with a series of community engagement meetings with the Baale (Community Head), youth and faith-based and other community stakeholders of Araromi Community. Local contractors were identified by the stakeholder group which also added an economic benefit to a few members of the community.
The project has helped foster a sense of community among residents with various instances of voluntary efforts from members of the community, the donation of the drilling site by a community stakeholder and the donation of tools like wood, wheelbarrows and other construction materials.
The UN sustainable development framework has a key goal of ensuring that everyone has access to clean, sustainable water and adequate water sanitation. As part of our mandate, we strive to improve community access to potable water, not only for the public's health but also for economic growth and poverty reduction, and with the support of GlobalGiving and the generosity of donors, Adara Foundation is able to deliver this project.
The Foundation has planned an official launch of the project for 26th August 2022.
