A Sustainable Solution to Period Poverty

By Camilla Quist Olesen | Head of Organizational Development

A Sustainable Solution to Period Poverty

Thanks to the support of our GlobalGiving donors, we are moving closer to our goal of ending period poverty for girls who need it most - one cup at a time.

Period poverty remains a serious barrier to education, work, health and dignity. Too many girls still miss school and opportunities simply because they do not have access to safe, reliable menstrual products or the knowledge needed to manage their periods with confidence.

Through this project, we provide reusable menstrual products together with menstrual health and hygiene training.

These products are designed to last for several years, offering girls a long-term and sustainable solution that helps them stay in school, participate in daily life, and protect their health.

In 2025, we collected 3,578 reusable menstrual products that are currently being distributed to girls facing period poverty. Alongside the products, our “Breaking the Silence” approach helps create safe spaces for open conversations about menstruation, breaking taboos and building confidence among girls and young women.

However, the need remains great. Many girls are still waiting for access to the products and knowledge that can help them manage their periods safely and with dignity. We therefore continue to call for more support so we can reach even more girls with sustainable menstrual products and essential health education.

Your support does more than provide a product. It restores dignity, reduces waste from disposable products, and creates opportunities for girls to continue their education and shape their own futures. We are deeply grateful for every donation.

Thank you.
