Spring 2014
By Caroline Noland | Development Manager
Spring has sprung in our village schools!
Exams have begun for most of our students; I am sure they would appreciate your prayers for clear minds and focused pencils! This year PEP is focussing on mentoring and empowering our existing schools so that they might make an even greater impact on this communities. With your help, we hope to build 21 brick school buildings for those schools who are still meeting in huts. We are also providing PEP graduates with bicycles so they can travel to their secondary or high school and continue their education. Often times, the closest school is too far to walk, but a bike enables them to travel safely and regularly!
You are our heros and we are so thankful you choose again and again to invest in our students.

Merry Christmas everyone! We are so thrilled to be ending this year with you. We are busy this month preparing new staff members who will begin in January, writing annual reports, and drafting our visions for next years programs. Next year we are excited to relay that we will be adding 15 new Women's Empowerment Groups to aid us in improving girls' education as well as beginning new Aflatoun clubs, and searching for communities in our current areas that still don't have access to schools. Please join us in prayer as we see what God has in store for that. We would invite you to join our monthly newsletter list if you aren't already on it and visit our blog for more recent stories on the work we are doing. Thank you for your support this year and may your holidays be wonderful!

Greetings friends! Our summer is over in Pakistan and we are starting off to a great new school year. We been busy for the Primary Education Project in regards to trainings and conferences for our teachers and students. In June, students and teachers from PEP schools attended the Peace Festival, sponsored by Church World Service. The Peace Festival was designed to promote conversation and discussion on ways that individuals can bring about peace in their own communities. Our students presented speeches, posters, and dramas on peace and won 5 awards for their work. We are proud of their participation and excited to have peace education in our curriculum. In July, through grants from Tearfund UK, PEP held an Advocacy Training for local community members, staff members, and teachers. PEP believes that in order for education in Sindh to be sustainable and of a high caliber, all parties (including the government) must be actively involved. Attendees were taught about the importance of fighting for the rights of the most vulnerable in society, using their connections and networks to better their communities, and how to stand alongside so many villages that still do not have access to education. PEP is determined to enable citizens to fight for every child's right to education and literacy. Additionally in July, PEP's Women's Empowerment Groups came for training on Child Protection. Abuse, neglect of human rights, and child labor are all factors in the every day lives of people in our communities. This training was designed to equip our female leaders with the knowledge they need to fight against these dangers. It is our hope that more students are protected and that our Women's Empowerment Group Leaders are able to drive this process of change. Thank you for your continued support of our programs. We are blessed and encouraged by you!
