The women of Menghwar community at Khowaja are very active because they know how to use their opportunities. They have recently been provided with the opportunity to use Android tablets and have made a great use of it by integrating the Android Tablets in the Adult Literacy Curriculum.
Before Female Adult Literacy Center was established in Menghwar village, these women were simple house wives, working in their homes and working in the fields, but they had no opportunity to grow. When they heard that an Adult Literacy Center was being opened through PEP, many women expressed their wish to receive an education.
As the Adult Literacy Center opened for women, soon their progress was visible. Women were beginning to read small words and make sentences by themselves. They were beginning to write which was an unbelievable result for most women.
Looking at the great difference they were making in the Adult Literacy Programme, Primary Education Project decided to open another great opportunity for women through providing Android Tablets as a part of the Adult Literacy curriculum.
As the women started learning how to use the Android tablet, they shared some wonderful comments about their experience.
"We had no idea that a person can learn almost everything form an Android Tablet. We thought the Android tablet is only shown to us to know what it is, but understanding that we will continue it as a part of our course makes us feel fortunate and happy.
Being able to learn from an Android Tablet is a huge opportunity for women like us because a few years back, unlike the educated we were not even able to hold a pencil. And now having this opportunity has made us believe in ourselves and the people in our village look at us in a very respectful way."
The purpose of providing such opportunities to rural women in Sindh is to empower them and make them believe that they too have a significant purpose in the growth of their society, and that they can use their abilities to bring change.

What the need of water looked in Khipro Village:
There was no facility of water for school children and mostly families had hand-pump in their home. Students were facing difficulties to accessing water because they don’t have the facility of drinking water nearby school. Students would have to go home for drinking water so mostly students won’t back to school after they reached home. Now the school has own hand-pump supported by PEP and students are happy and pleased to have a hand-pump in the school.
How People In Rural Sindh Make Their Living:
Pritam Menghwar is a big colony and also nearby to Khipro city. The total population of the colony is 655. Mostly peoples are farmer and very few people have some shop in the Khipro city some are business men and some work on daily wages and also villagers kept livestock.
80% houses are made with cement and bricks and 20% houses are constructed with mud brick and roof with bamboo. Government is not actively work in the village they don’t have government school or any government hospital in their village. They only source of development they have in their village is PEP school. This village is 1 KM away from nearest big city Khipro. 90% of the villagers of this village are uneducated and now every child is getting education from PEP school.
The well dedication:
45 people attended the well dedication ceremony. PEP area coordinator Mr. Aatam Dass give a short briefing about the project and share the benefits of having hand-pump nearby the school.
Expressions of appreciation by the villagers:
I am very happy to have a hand pump in the school and students can easily drink water without leaving a school, we don’t have good facility of drinking water for school children before this project. Now the students don’t have to leave the school from drinking water and also don’t waste their school time.

I am very grateful to PEP and CBN for the support in the shape of hand-pump they installed in our village. Now my 6 year old girl can continue her study in school rather than leaving the school and come to home for water. Free Medical Camp by Peace Foundation For PEP School, Raichand Menghwar
According to the PEP sustainability report, a free medical camp in the village of Raichand Menghwar, Mirpurkhas, Sindh was provided for the community. This medical camp was supported by an organization called Peace Foundation that works with many villages in rural Sindh.
In this free medical camp, 116 patients from Raichand Menghwar village were treated which included women and children. There were over 25 women who needed ultrasound and treatment for pregnancy, and children who were treated through first aid and medicines.
It was the first time for the village of Raichand Menghwar to visit a free medical camp that proved to be extremely beneficial, because otherwise for women travelling to other cities to see a doctor was hard to access.
The School Management Committee (SMC) of Raichand Menghwar School initiated the free medical camp to build relationships with peer organizations ensuring sustainability in the community.
The objective to build PEP schools in rural Sindh was to provide quality education as well as to empower communities to raise their standards of living. By having PEP school in Raichand Menghwar village, the community has developed ownership through the seed of education, and emerged as a sustainable valuable society.
Marginalized To Valued Communities
Building relationships with other peer organizations, or the government, gives the belief to a community that they are accepted as a society, and their identity matters. Initiatives such as medical camps, awareness raising programs, and student programs are empowering communities to grow out from the bonds of being marginalized and stepping in to the reality of becoming a valued community.
Why Their Story Matters
More than a decade ago when Primary Education Project did not exist, the commuities in rural Sindh were known to be marginalized and they were those people whose existance was not acknowledged.
For a long time, the tribal communities suffered from ignorance severe poverty, and lack of knowledge about education, health and safe infrastructure. As initiatives were taken to support such communities, their existance became audible which gave way for their growth.
And now, the communities of rural Sindh need to tell their part of the story.

This story is to let you know how the children of PEP schools, now graduates are working to as change agents in the rural Sindh. And, It's all because of you!
The incredible heroes are the PEP graduates that belong to the village Raichand Menghwar in rural Sindh. They are the members of the Aflateen Programme who want to make a difference in their life as well as in their surroundings.
Their teacher Misree Lal says, " Every week in evening from 7:00 to 9:00 pm we all gather together and I teach lessons from the Aflateen curriculum".
In addition to the weekly classes, the PEP graduates of this group have a savings group in which per student out of 10 students saves 100 rupees every week.
Why Aflateen Programme Is Important To Us?
The Aflateen programme began as a movement for the youth to work as change agents in their community. The purpose of this movement was to stay in contact with the PEP graduates and boost them for taking further education. Check Out Facebook Pictures Of Aflateen Exposure Visit!
In addition to this, PEP wanted it graduates to volunteer in promoting girls' education, raise voice against early marriage, and raise awareness on issues like drugs, AIDs, and child abuse that are so common in rural areas of Sindh. The Aflateen groups in each village helped to tackle all these kinds of issues, equipping the communities with knowledge, and encouraging younger children to gravitate more towards education.
Furthermore, one of the most important purposes to start the Aflateen programme was to motivate the youth to accomplish things on their own, taking the ownership for their life. The PEP graduates are taught how to start small enterprises that will not only help them financially, but also give them a sense of achievement.
There are currently 41 groups of Aflateen in 5 areas of rural Sindh.
Lottery to Help Build Enterprise!
Mangal is a 19 year old boy who is a member of the Aflateen programme. Although Mangal is not educated, he loves to be a part of something bigger than him.
Mangal only recently bought a lamb through the lottery he won from the Aflateen group savings.
He works as a farmer and supports and his family through this occupation. In addition to working as a farmer, every week Mangal comes with the PEP graduates to learn from the Aflateen curriculum. He is a hard working boy and wants to contribute as much as he can to his family.
Mangal will use his lamb for the purpose of selling milk in future and grow his enterprise.
