Greetings friends! Our summer is over in Pakistan and we are starting off to a great new school year. We been busy for the Primary Education Project in regards to trainings and conferences for our teachers and students. In June, students and teachers from PEP schools attended the Peace Festival, sponsored by Church World Service. The Peace Festival was designed to promote conversation and discussion on ways that individuals can bring about peace in their own communities. Our students presented speeches, posters, and dramas on peace and won 5 awards for their work. We are proud of their participation and excited to have peace education in our curriculum. In July, through grants from Tearfund UK, PEP held an Advocacy Training for local community members, staff members, and teachers. PEP believes that in order for education in Sindh to be sustainable and of a high caliber, all parties (including the government) must be actively involved. Attendees were taught about the importance of fighting for the rights of the most vulnerable in society, using their connections and networks to better their communities, and how to stand alongside so many villages that still do not have access to education. PEP is determined to enable citizens to fight for every child's right to education and literacy. Additionally in July, PEP's Women's Empowerment Groups came for training on Child Protection. Abuse, neglect of human rights, and child labor are all factors in the every day lives of people in our communities. This training was designed to equip our female leaders with the knowledge they need to fight against these dangers. It is our hope that more students are protected and that our Women's Empowerment Group Leaders are able to drive this process of change. Thank you for your continued support of our programs. We are blessed and encouraged by you!
