It is an obvious fact that Parkinson's disease causes various forms of disabilities which hinder or disturb normal mobility for Parkinson Patients. PD patients cannot walk smoothly unlike other patients without walking difficulty. Parkinson Patients Support Organization-Ethiopia (PPSO-E) through Global Giving financial supports had been providing Walking Cane Support to its beneficiaries.
One PD patient who was the beneficiary gave her testimony of how the Walking cane delivered supported her as she walks in her compound or when she make exercise walk outside her residential building.
Her name is Mrs. Birke and she said the Walking Cane helped her towards achieveing the following effects.
- It builds my confidence when I am walking. She said, “I feel I am able to support myself.”
- It supports me from falling down while walking and even if falling down happens by chance, it will not expose me for greater damage as compared to the situation in which I have no walking cane.
- When I am with my walking cane, I feel if someone is standing beside me. Walking cane are like real friends to us Parkinson patients.
She concluded her testimony with gratitude to GG INC and urged for continued suppors.

PD Walk Fund (Walking Stick for Balance)
We at Parkinson Patients Support Organization-Ethiopia are greatly indebted to the supports we are receiving through GlobalGiving INC. GG and the donors together have become hand, feet and mouth to poor PD patients. With the supports received patients have been managing the pains from symptoms. Major motor symptoms of Parkinson symptoms include tremor, rigidity, postural instability, walking balance problems, speech problem, drooling etc. Non- motor symptoms include: insomnia, depression, dehydration, hallucination when case become worse.
The only way patients can manage these symptoms is through drug purchase and walking cane support. Fifty patients benefited from PD drug purchase and Walking cane support to help them maintain balance while walking. This is so because PD causes imbalance during walk due to lack of dopamine in the brain.
