Unlike other developed countries, Ethiopia is a country with less awareness about Parkinson’s disease. The disease is not known, and the patients don’t get all the required attention and care. Thus, with an aim to create awareness about the disease and fund rise for patients, the organization celebrated world PD day. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak and other internal problems, the organization was not allowed to have a walk. As a result, to meet the stated aim, PD walk was replaced by celebration of world PD day.
In this day, different government officials, artists, patients and care givers were invited. People from different media station were also invited to broadcast the event. In addition, Fund rising was done for wheelchair and diapers. With all these activities, it can be said that the event was successful. Donations were given for few wheelchairs and diapers. Different Medias also broadcast about the event, and the aim of awareness creation through Medias was fulfilled.
Samuel, who is PD patient, was one of the guests for this PD day celebration. He reported that, the effort to create awareness to general public was good. He said that “I appreciate the works done by Parkinson’s patient support organization-Ethiopia. They are doing great in awareness creation, and helping poor PD patients”
