Parental skills training was successfully conducted across four communities in the Adaklu District (Adaklu Waya, Adaklu Wumenu, Adaklu Kodzobi and Adaklu Goefe), reaching a total of 330 caregivers including 187 Female caregivers and 143 Male caregivers. The sessions were designed to strengthen caregivers’ capacity to provide nurturing, supportive, and protective environments for their children. Through a participatory and engaging approach, caregivers were introduced to the principles of positive discipline, emphasizing non-violent methods of guiding children’s behavior while promoting mutual respect and understanding within the home. A key focus of the training was improving communication between caregivers and children. Facilitators guided participants through practical techniques such as active listening, empathy, and open dialogue, helping caregivers to better understand their children’s thoughts, emotions, and challenges. Caregivers were encouraged to create safe spaces within the home where children feel heard, valued, and confident to express themselves without fear. The training also highlighted the importance of intentional parenting. Caregivers were supported to reflect on their daily routines and identify ways to spend more quality time with their children despite competing responsibilities. They were equipped with simple but impactful strategies to build stronger relationships, including regular check-ins, shared activities, and consistent guidance to help children make positive life choices. Overall, the training contributed to increased awareness and commitment among caregivers to adopt positive parenting practices. Many participants expressed renewed motivation to become more present, patient, and supportive in their roles. This intervention is expected to strengthen family bonds, reduce the risk of neglect and harmful behaviors, and ultimately contribute to the well-being and protection of children within the Adaklu District. Caregivers were glad to have facilitators engage them in such training and asked for frequent check-ins from facilitators.
