Since the successful opening of the Mother and Child Health (MCH) area of the new Center for Reproductive and Child Health in July 2023, the Center's healthcare staff provided well check-ups for 2,516 children under 5, saw 762 women for their prenatal visits, and recorded 1,685 family planning visits. In addition, numerous idividuals received HIV counseling in the facility. The MCH now sees more patients in its facilities than they were able to see in their previous location. The new environment is spacious and hygienic with plenty of ventilation. As the attached photos illustrate, there is a comfortable, shaded waiting/screening area with accessible toilets. The MCH also provides private rooms for examinations and counseling. This fully functional facility achieves many of the stated goals for the new Center for Reproductive and Child Health. The construction of the final section of the complex will begin sometime this year. Once complete, the Nutrition Counseling section will enable all of the goals for the new Center to be achieved. We will continue to update our donors on the successes of the MCH and progress on the Center's Nutrition Counseling facility.
We are most grateful to our donors for the amazing support we have received for the Center for Reproductive and Child Health. This important project at the Mwandi hospital enables the healthcare staff to continue to improve the lives of the people of Western Province Zambia.
