New books and children's library in Chicoana-Salta

Francesco is italian. And most important of all, he is a dreamer, like many of us.

And his dream is from childhood: climbing mountains and helping foster education for children around the world. The name of his dream is « Summit Stories »,  a journey across the seven continents and their highest peaks to help bring education opportunities to underprivileged youth and local communities. 

Like Francesco, let´s dream as high as possible !!! Let´s dream on new books and improving literacy opportunities for each child in Argentina !!! Your help is so important in making this dream come true!!!

« When I climb Aconcagua in January, I plan to support Fundacion Leer, the leading non-profit organization in Argentina that provides reading opportunities to under-privileged children in Argentina.

Remember when you were a child and there was storytime in your day or night? Remember that favorite book of yours?

Help create those tender and meaningful memories to children who do not have those moments.

Unfortunately, many children don’t have this opportunity in Argentina, with devastating impact on the development of their language, reading and writing skills and school performance.

By contributing to Fundacion Leer (Argentina's leading early literary foundation), you will be helping children to be prepared with the necessary abilities and enthusiasm to learn!

Your contribution will finance a project in the Salta region to train operators in charge of children and to build children libraries and provide books for the children to choose and read.

It’s a wonderful program and I am looking forward to meeting and exceeding the goal we set to support Fundacion Leer and help Los Chiquitos read more.

We are still hoping to raise enough money to build a reading corner at the community center in Salta province, Argentina. Salta has one of the lowest levels of education in the country and many of it's residents live in extreme poverty.

We have been lucky enough to receive some funding  but we are still far away from our target. A children's library will be built at this rural school in Chicoana, Salta, Argentina, benefiting 100 at risk children and their families, 5 local teachers will be trained to effectively promote literacy among children and a Reading Corner with 300 new children's books will be assembled.

The inauguration of the Reading Corner is a very important moment for  children, teachers, parents and the community. Many activities regarding the pleasure of reading are carried out: dramatic performances, story telling, songs and an exhibition of the characters of the stories.

 As Julio Cesar, director from the school N° 4233 (Las Llanas, Salta Province,) shared with us after living the experience of opening a Reding Corner:

“The kids were happy, dressed as characters stories. For them it was a great event, because they are not used to living this kind of thing. The teachers worked very much and very hard  in the preparation of this special event. Here we do everything with a lot of effort. It is a major achievement for all.  It's wonderful that these children can live this, because their opportunities in life are very limited.  Thanks so much to everyone who made this dream possible! "

By strengthening the community center located in Chicoana and the community referrals, Fundación Leer seeks to improve literacy opportunities of the children in this area. Reading Promotion and Literacy are key to development, educational success and future social insertion of children who live under high social risk. In Chicoana, the children and their families live in extreme poverty  and with the lowest education levels of the country. For this reason, Fundación Leer provides the necessary resources and training.
