For twelve consecutive years, Education Through Music-LA has seen music impact our students and communities in positive ways. For Diego, a student at one of our partner schools, music is a driving force and inspiration in his life. It motivates him to try and try again in order to be the best that he can be. “When I’m in music class, I feel like I need to be there because I don’t want to miss any class [so that I can get to] a good level," he shares. His mother, Yenny, has also seen the impact music has had in her son’s life. “Ever since he was young, he has always been restless and had a bit of difficulty focusing. However, I have seen a huge difference since he began playing an instrument. I have seen how it helps him concentrate, including how his mood changes, and also how he finds peace in music.”
Thanks to supporters like you, students have the opportunity to be the best versions of themselves and find their passion in life through a well-rounded education that includes music, just as Diego has. Understanding the importance of this opportunity, Diego proclaims, “I want to be a professional violinist and make music for students all around the world. I can even teach classes to kids [who don’t] have [the] opportunity to learn music in schools.”
Diego is one of the 12,000 students we are currently serving with comprehensive, sequential, in-school music instruction. With your continued support this year, we will be able to expand to serve 30 schools and 14,000 students with music education in order to enhance their academic, general, and emotional development. “Music is a part of me so I feel happy when I’m playing the violin - I just feel confident, [more] like myself,’ he shares.
Thank you for joining our mission and providing children with hope for a brighter future through music education!
