More Play, Less Seizures for Rural Children.

We are pleased to share with you the progress of our “More Play, Less Seizures for Rural Children” project for children in rural communities in Mexico, who face epilepsy and a constant struggle to access specialized medical treatment and services.

Thanks to your generous support, we are achieving a better quality of life for the children, but the challenge remains great.

Epilepsy is a disease that requires continuous medical follow-up and, in many cases, a complex and costly medication regimen. However, for children in vulnerable communities, access to this type of care is extremely limited due to several factors:

• Distance and lack of local services: in these rural communities there are no medical centers with the necessary specialists to care for children with epilepsy. Families must travel to other locations at least 2 hours away in search of adequate treatment. In the case of one of our children, the nearest pediatric neurologist is four hours away, which represents an economic and physical burden for him and his family.
• High costs and availability of medications: Monthly medication and consultation costs are considerable, and access to medications is not guaranteed. In the case of one of our girls, she and her family face constant difficulties in acquiring her medications due to the distance from pharmacies and lack of availability in local stores. This situation is common and poses a constant challenge for families, who are sometimes unable to cover the monthly cost of transportation, consultations and medications.

These challenges underscore the importance of continued support from donors like you. With your contributions, we are making it possible for children to have access to medications, specialized consultations and diagnostic studies that are essential to control their seizures and improve their quality of life. Your help not only contributes to their treatment, but also gives their families the emotional relief of knowing that they are not alone in this struggle.

We move forward with the conviction that together we can overcome these challenges. Every donation makes a difference in the lives of children with epilepsy, helping them build a healthier and brighter future. We are pleased to share with you the progress of the "More Play, Less Seizures for Rural Children" project. During the period from April to June 2024, we have been able to positively impact the health of nine girls and boys suffering from Epilepsy in rural areas, significantly improving their quality of life.

Overall Impact:

The interventions implemented have proven to be effective in improving the quality of life of the children served. Recreational activities have not only provided a safe space for the children to play and socialize, but have also contributed to the reduction of their seizure frequency. Financial support has been crucial in ensuring that they have access to the necessary medications, which is essential for their ongoing treatment.

Geremy from Hidalgo.
In June, he received a visit to implement activities to stimulate hand-eye coordination, to know if he continues attending therapy. In her progress he has improved a lot in physical and recreational activities.

Paloma from Hidalgo.
In June, she received economic support for the purchase of medicines. Paloma's quality of life has improved by being able to purchase her necessary medications.

Jesus from Hidalgo.
In June, he received financial support for the purchase of medicines. This support has allowed him to have greater mobility in his extremities.

He received financial support to pay for medical consultation. Thanks to this, he is keeping his treatment under control.

She received support for the purchase of medication (levetiracetam). Her health condition is stable thanks to the treatment.
