MASOOM
Masoom is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to establishing and supporting quality
education in Night Schools. Masoom’s mission is to enable Night Schools’ students achieve
their full potential through educational and policy support, leading to better skills and job
opportunities.
PROJECT SUMMARY
Masoom launched the Tech on Wheels Project to help Night school students to explore their
passion for science and technology. The project helped students to have access to computer
technology, gain increased self-confidence, and sharpen their design-thinking skills besides
the development of new attitudes towards modern-day technology. Tech-On-Wheels allows
Masoom to extend these benefits to thousands of Night School students in Mumbai.
TECH-ON-WHEELS BUS
The Tech-On-Wheels Bus is enabling Masoom offer IT courses to a much larger number of
students. The Tech-On-Wheels Bus is also providing Night Schools’ students with access to
computers, online resources, and innovative educational programming which will open the
door to bright future. Besides all of this, the Tech-On-Wheels Bus acts as a unique platform
for learning as well. The bus with the access to computers enables students to enter a larger
world of reference material and self- study, particularly when it comes to science and
technology.
The bus is helping to develop computer literacy and 21 st century skills in the students which
are a must for a promising career. Students are more equipped to seek higher education as
well. The Tech- On-Wheels bus provides computer access to up to 28 students per class
and 170 students per month from Day & Night Schools (120 from Day schools & 50 from
Night Schools).Masoom, which already provides educational support to over 3500 night
school students in Mumbai, is now able to serve many more students per year with the
Tech-On-Wheels Project. These students would otherwise be deprived of computer training.
MISSION
Enable Day and Night School students from underprivileged background to achieve their full
potential through education in the technology sector for better skills and job opportunities.
CORE OBJECTIVE
To build a platform for creating technological foundational skills in Day and Night school
students from underprivileged background and create awareness among them about the
Information Technology sector and enabling them to choose a career path going forward.
Project updates (2 nd Lockdown)
Tech-On-Wheels bus did not run in the communities and schools during the second
wave of Covid-19 pandemic. TOW team supported the online education under the
Night School Transformation Program, so that the students do not fall behind in
academics. Team provided the technical support to Masoom staff. Please find below
the activities undertaken by the TOW team -
1) Technical Support
- Provided the Technical Support to the Masoom staffs for online classes
- Curriculum books are ready and printed (Basic Computer Course, Web
designing and Graphic designing). These books will be used as a reference
by students.
- TOW team supported the making of the SOP video documentations of
different department under Masoom. These SOPs are about standard
operations procedures followed by Masoom and the videos will be helpful to
any person for understanding Masoom activities in a better way.
- 64 Videos to be shot and will be edited by the end of November.
2) Online Platform
- Team coordinated with the Solve Education to implement the SSC worksheet
for Math subjects (Eng. medium). Solve Education organization is helping us to
develop gamified version of worksheets. So, the students can complete the
worksheets in a fun way.
- Students will have access to the educational games from play store and can
then access the worksheets.
3. Tech-On-Wheels (New Bus for Nagpur)
- New Bus (3 rd ) fabricated for the Nagpur Location
- Bus inauguration event was on 21st Oct 2021 in Nagpur (The event was
conducted following all COVID safety guidelines and with limited number of
Guests). Bus will be operational post Diwali vacation and will provide digital
education to 700 students.
Challenges –
Schools were closed from April to June 2021 in the wake of second lockdown due to
Covid-19. Aarey pada centers and schools were operational through online platform in
the next quarter also. So, we were not able to take the Bus to the pada and to the
Night Schools in Mumbai.
Way Ahead
1. Bus will start moving in Arey Pada Colony (Goregaon) from post Diwali vacation.
2. A total of 4 batches will be started after Diwali Vacation.
3. 60 students will get training in Information Technology Courses.
