Tech On Wheels For Night School Students In India

Masoom is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to establishing and supporting quality education in Night Schools.  Masoom’s mission is to enable Night Schools’ students achieve their full potential through educational and policy support, leading to better skills and job opportunities.

PROJECT SUMMARY

Masoom, in partnership with Level Up Village (LUV), launched the Tech-Wheels Project to help students to explore their passion for science and technology. The project helped students to gain increased self-confidence, have access to computer technology, and sharpen their design-thinking skills besides the development of new attitudes towards modern-day technology. Tech-Wheels will allow Masoom and LUV to extend these and other benefits to thousands of night school students in Mumbai.

TECH ON WHEELS BUS

The Tech-Wheels Bus is enabling Masoom and LUV to offer LUV courses to a much larger number of students. The Tech On Wheels Bus is also providing Night Schools’ students with access to computers, online resources, and innovative educational programming which will open the door to a bright future. Besides all of this, Tech On Wheels Bus acts as a unique platform for learning as well. The bus is not only providing access to computers, but it also allows students to enter a larger world of reference material and self-study, particularly when it comes to science and technology.

Bus is helping to develop computer literacy and 21^st century skills in the students which are a must for a promising career.  Students are more equipped to seek higher education as well.  Tech-Wheels bus provides computer access to up to 25 students per class and 125 students per week.  Masoom, which already provides educational support to over 3500 students in Mumbai, is now be able to serve many more students per year with the Tech On Wheels Project. These students would otherwise receive no computer training.

Activities Done & Way Ahead

1. Web Designing – More than 250 students have got the opportunity to make websites through the Tech On Wheels Bus. Five more classes have been started with 100 students. This happens once in a week for 2 months i.e. 8 sessions have already been completed during this time period.
2. Masoom has collaborated with other organizations, and with their support, Municipal Schools’ students who are studying in day schools have got the opportunity to learn about technology through Tech On Wheels Bus.75 students have made Mobile Applications through the Tech On Wheels Project, and they are also learning to create small video games through scratch software.
3. Masoom has taken the initiative to increase the reach of the Tech On Wheels Project to tribal areas where kids don’t have access to technology. 50 students are learning about Basic Computers. Their self -confidence has risen, and they have become more sanguine. Now they are able to use computers more efficiently and with ease.
4. Through Tech On Wheels Project, we have started Design For Change (DFC) Program in tribal areas. Here students will learn about self-awareness, society issues, and they then work on the process to reach conclusive and best solutions.
5. We are planning to purchase 1 more bus in the year 2017-18 for giving more opportunities to our night school students and other students.
6. For the benefit of the students, we are planning to start 3D printing courses for our night school students.
