A Warm and Enriching Winter at Cedar Village

By Sally Korkin | Director of Development

Flower Arranging -- an intergenerational project
Flower Arranging -- an intergenerational project

Since the beginning of the year, the residents at Cedar Village Retirement Community in Mason, Ohio, have had some amazing programs not only to be entertained, but also to stimulate their minds and learning opportunities. In January, we brought in the Cincinnati Shakespeare Theatre to perform “In Love with Shakespeare.” One resident, with dementia was not too keen about the performance in the beginning. But quickly, the performers adjusted their monologues and really played to her, keeping in mind the rest of the audience. It turned out wonderfully. In the end, Hope was delighted!  To add to the Winter enriching experiences, Cedar Village was fortunate enough to bring in one of the 2011 Jewish & Israeli Film Festival movies, “One Hundred Voices: A Journey Home.”

Funds continue to help sponsor exercise classes including Tai Chi and jewelry-making classes where our residents enjoy making bracelets and necklaces for themselves and their family members. As one resident said, “This is my new knitting, I could make jewelry everyday!” In addition, we have added several new flowering arranging classes which bring joy to the residents living in healthcare.

Within a retirement community it is vital to provide engagement and stimulation for mind, body and spirit.
