With your help, we aim to grant more than 270 wishes in 2020. Wishes like Malakai’s.
Malakai has loved to cook since he was 3-years-old. The now 13-year-old from Florence, Oregon, has honed his skills and palate since his toddler days, and developed a deep love of Italian food. Malakai, who was born with a genetic disorder, finds true joy in preparing, cooking, and eating pastas, pizzas and other Italian dishes. So when he was referred to Make-A-Wish® Oregon, he knew his one true wish was without question a food tour of Italy.
The team at Make-A-Wish Oregon began planning and Malakai’s wish came to fruition. During the trip, Malakai and his family learned to make pasta, gnocchi, and pizza from authentic Italian chefs in Florence, Italy. The family was even able to visit Rome.
“I can’t even put my gratitude for the whole Italy experience into words,” Malakai’s mom said. “Thank you.”
A wish for a child like Malakai brings so much more than joy – it provides something positive for the child and their family to reflect on during rough times. Malakai’s genetic disorder will always be with him, but so will his love of Italian food and the precious memories from his trip eating his way around Italy. Thank you for helping transform the lives of local children like Malakai.
