In Kilifi County, hunger remains a relentless enemy. Today, 98% of households face food shortages, and nearly 4 in 10 children under five suffer from stunting due to malnutrition. Families are struggling to survive amid unpredictable rainfall, degraded soils, and the absence of irrigation infrastructure.

The Challenge

• Climate variability and droughts have devastated harvests.

• Water scarcity limits irrigation and livestock health.

• Poor soil fertility and inefficient farming methods reduce yields.

• Rising food prices make nutrition inaccessible for the most vulnerable.

Our Solution Asante Aid is committed to eliminating hunger through sustainable agriculture and nutrition programs. With your support, we will:

• Drill 50 boreholes to provide irrigation and clean drinking water.

• Train 500 farmers in climatesmart agriculture and soil conservation.

• Test 1,000 soil samples to optimize fertilizer use.

• Establish 100 community gardens to grow local, nutritious food.

• Train 200 livestock farmers in breeding and disease prevention.

LongTerm Impact This initiative will ensure lasting food security: thriving community gardens, empowered farmers, improved maternal and child nutrition, and reduced malnutrition rates across Kilifi.

 PROJECT UPDATE REPORT

1. Background
Kilifi County continues to face severe food insecurity and malnutrition, with 98% of households experiencing food shortages and 39.1% of children under five suffering from stunting. Unpredictable rainfall, soil degradation, and lack of irrigation infrastructure have weakened agricultural productivity, leaving thousands vulnerable.

This project was launched to eliminate hunger and enhance food security through sustainable agriculture, improved water access, and nutrition programs.

2. Progress to Date

• Donations received: USD 16 (accumulative)
• Donors engaged: 3 supporters so far
• Remaining goal: USD 302,676
• Duration: 8 months into the implementation window

Groundwork activities completed:

• Community mobilization and sensitization meetings.
• Identification of priority sites for borehole drilling.
• Farmer registration for the upcoming climatesmart agriculture training.
• Soil sample collection planning with agricultural officers.

3. Challenges

• Funding gap: Current donations remain insufficient to begin infrastructure works.
• Climate variability: Ongoing drought conditions continue to strain communities.
