Our young friends in Khe Sanh are studying hard for their final examination and they still visit the library regularly to update their knowledge and prepare for the coming tests. In Vietnam, the winter just arrived, bringing cold weather to Khe Sanh. However, our friends are happy as they have the library. Thanks to the library, reading books becomes a regular habit for these tribal children in the mountainous area.
In this New Year, the children were excited to welcome some friends from U.S. In partnership with GCSF, Global Playground sent their two fellows, Scott and Kendall, to help teach English in Khe Sanh. More than 750 young children from Khe Sanh Primary School will have a chance to improve their English capacity and know more about the outside world via interactions with these two native-speaking friends.
Meanwhile, their friends in the nearby Ban 1 Village will be the next to receive a mobile library package with three bookshelves an outdoor reading bench and 400 books. 56 young students from Pako and Van Kieu tribes will greet their New Year with this wonderful gift that will help to improve their knowledge. “I and my students are really excited to receive books. We did not have enough room for students, let alone library. Thus, this mobile library package is a great contribution for these tribal students”, shared Ms. Van, a teacher from the Ban 1 Village School.
For the last couple of years, GCSF has been expanding its effort out to the most rural communities in and around Khe Sanh, providing opportunities for book-reading to local ethnic minority students. This effort was made possible through the generous support of our friends. We would like to take advantage on the occasion of the New Year to express our gratitude towards their generosity and wish everyone a Prosperous and Happy New Year.
Let’s keep joining hands to provide libraries to some of the most disadvantaged children in rural Vietnam.
