Dear GlobalGiving Friends,
The new school year just started in Vietnam in early September and our young friends in Khe Sanh Primary School were happy returning to school. The library is also busier with students visiting everyday.
In a quiet corner at Pa Nho School, a satellite school of Khe Sanh Primary School, Ly, dressed in Pako tribe outfit, is reading a picture book about Vietnam history. “I like reading books a lot. I don’t have books at home to read but in my school, there are lots of them. Picture books are my favorite. I can read texts and see pictures at the same time”, shared Ly.
Ly, along with her 750 friends, is lucky having the support for a library and many books for reading. She and her friends will be enjoying a surprising gift soon. Global Community Service Foundation has partnered with Global Playground to send volunteers from US to Khe Sanh to help teaching English to these students. Ly and other friends will have a better chance in learning the most popular language in the world and meeting with foreign friends.
“I’m excited with the opportunity to travel up to Khe Sanh town, helping the disadvantaged children learning English. I will stay 8 months and hopefully my volunteer time will be helpful for the students and teachers over there”, said Scott Gemmell-Davis, a Fellow from Global Playground.
Ly and her friends will be happy with the books and new foreign friends. There are many other students like her who do not have the opportunity to get their hands on a book. The nearby Thanh village is looking for books and bookshelves for 400 ethnic minority students in the new school year.
We believe that your generosity will help us deliver these meaningful gifts to our disadvantaged friends to start a new school year.
Sincerely,
Nguyen Xuan Tam and the GCSF team in Vietnam
