School Children
TERM 3 for 2016 begins this week! At the last minute we received sufficient funding to return every one of Expanding Opportunities’ current 22 children to school for TERM III. Thank you donors.
School Fees and food are the highest expenses for children without medical needs. For orphans and street children it is impossible to even consider obtaining an education. Expanding Opportunities assists with uniforms, school fees and supplies as the situation determines to the limit of our donations. Currently we assist 21 children: one college student, six high school students, one nursery school child and twelve primary students. This is a long term commitment, through 12 years of school. Your donation directly affects a child’ future and a regular donation is applied directly to a specific child. Please consider helping us help more children with a regular donation of any amount per month.

Education is the Key

Some of our children attend this public school
Expanding Opportunities has been working in Kenya since 1997. Starting with a feeding program, when that seemed to help but not make permanent change; we added a Chidlren's Home, research reveals that the best place for children is in their own home, so we began Orphans at Home but by far in a country where public school is NOT FREE and uniforms are required, the evidence points more and more to education support. As education has proven to be one of the greatest tools for lifting people from powerty we increased our education support project. With close to 30 children being supported in some way, it was growing by leaps and bounds. Then for some reason unknown to us, donors left us behind. This School term we had to cut some children. That was one of the most heartbreaking experiences. But we did keep on 20 children. Two of them are Number one in their class. Six are high school students. High school is very costly so without assistance they would stop their education at class 8. Two are girls who are at risk of Early Forced Marriage and Femalw Genital Mutliation, Six are chdlren living with their elderly widowed grandmothers.
Each of them has a great need for assistance. Their support is not secured from one Term to the next.
Donors, I cannot thank you enough for making their education possible.

First Day of School
2016 is off to a great start! 26 children prepared to return to school. From Machakos to Aremiet; Kipsing to Mangu our children donned new uniforms and took their exercise notebooks and pencils off to begin a new year!
This year we have 4 students in High School; one in Class Eight who will prepare for Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examination at the end of this year. He is currently number one in his class. We hope for and encourage him to study as if his marks are high enough, he might obtain a scholarship.
Two are in Class 7 where the study pressure begins. Both the Class 7 and 8 students will be receiving some extra study texts. One is in his third year of postsecondary education and excelling in his study to become a computer engineer. The remaining are in K-6.
Thank you donors for making this possible. There are so many more unmet needs. So many children still at home without school uniform or fees. So many still on the streets without a home or hope for education. Your new or continued support will allow Expanding Opportunities to give hope to these children for the long term until they grow into responsible educated adults
