Each year an estimated 1 in 10 older Americans are victims of physical, sexual, psychological, & financial abuse and/or neglect. Many individuals do not realize a loved one or caregiver is abusing them physically, mentally, emotionally, etc…until it is too late. Cedar Village and the Shalom Center partner with community agencies, law enforcement, hospitals, and many others to raise awareness in the community to encourage early intervention and provide a safety net for vulnerable older adults
The Shalom Center for the Prevention of Elder Abuse is the first emergency elder abuse shelter in the state of Ohio, the only shelter for victims of elder abuse in the tri-state area, & 1 of only 12 in the nation. Other local programs are ill-equipped for the special needs of the elderly. The Shalom Center for the Prevention of Elder Abuse operates through partnering with Cedar Village and the location is kept confidential. The team at Cedar Village manages & funds every aspect of the counseling & care delivered so people age 65 & better suffering from abuse or neglect are able to heal safely at no cost to themselves.Throughout their stay, individuals in the Shalom Center receive necessary services- including a full range of health care and supportive services and a coordinated system of psychological, spiritual, and legal care.
Funds raised for the Shalom Center are used to offset costs incurred for medical care, social services, nursing care, therapy, and other necessary items. Often, elder abuse victims arrive to the Shalom Center with only the clothes they are wearing. Your support helps us meet the critical need of providing care & support to victims of elder abuse while ensuring our ability to continue breaking the cycle of abuse and provides those in need with items they need to begin their life again.
