The Sports Club continues to be one of JUCONI’s most well-attended spaces for children, providing regular opportunities for recreation, connection, and personal development. Building on the progress of previous periods, the program is also showing encouraging changes in how participants manage their emotions, relate to others, and perceive themselves.
At the beginning, several children experienced difficulties interacting with their peers. Friction during games sometimes led to confrontations or offensive remarks, as participants struggled to manage frustration and impulsive reactions. Through regular sports activities and consistent guidance from JUCONI’s facilitators, children have gradually developed calmer and more respectful ways of responding. These tensions have subsided, allowing participants to enjoy the activities more fully and contribute to a more supportive environment.
Growing self-confidence has been another meaningful development. Facilitators have observed progress among children who experienced bullying at school because of their physical appearance. Participation in the Sports Club has helped them recognize their abilities, feel accepted by their peers, and develop greater self-acceptance. Some now demonstrate more confidence in setting boundaries and responding assertively to hurtful comments. These experiences highlight the importance of having a space where children feel valued and respected.
The program has also provided constructive opportunities for children with high levels of energy. By helping facilitators prepare the activity spaces and organize sports materials, they can channel that energy into purposeful tasks. Taking on these responsibilities gives them an active role in the group while encouraging cooperation and a sense of belonging.
Alongside these changes, the Sports Club continues to offer a protective environment away from the violence affecting the surrounding community. For participants, it is a place to play, build friendships, and receive support from trusted adults. The combination of sports and ongoing guidance is helping children strengthen their confidence, manage everyday disagreements, and experience more positive relationships.
