On September 16, 2022, deadly flooding hit Italy's central Marche region. Severe weather wreaked havoc in and around Ancona, the region's capital, with extremely above average amounts of rain falling in the space of a few hours. Survivors climbed trees or rushed up to rooftops to await rescue. At least 10 people are dead, 50 are injured and 4 are still missing with hundreds of displaced. All donations to this fund will exclusively support local relief and recovery efforts.
While first responders help in the rescue and evacuation, community members shovel mud for hours and remove branches and other debris from the flooding that has severely damaged homes, shops and businesses. In addition to the tragic casualties, there is currently incalculable damages to livelihoods of affected communities. Italy's Council of Ministers approved a state of emergency for the Marche region.
All donations to this fund will support recovery and relief efforts from this disaster in Italy. Initially, the fund will help first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, and shelter. Once initial relief work is complete, this fund will transition to support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations in Italy.

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.
We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.
They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
