A new effective drug, confirmed in 9 NBL samples

By Rachele Rosati | Research Fellow

Dear Project Neuroblastoma supporters,

October is the month of giving to non-profit organizations like Cure First. We hope you will consider to continue funding Project Neuroblastoma to discover less toxic cures for children with cancer.

Our goal has been to strengthen the results, most importantly to test our discovery of a new drug for neuroblastoma, by increasing the number of samples. Just this month, we achieved this goal, reaching a total of 9 high-risk NBL samples, successfully screened with the library of 320 compounds compiled by the well-renowned CTD2 network (Cancer Target Development and Discovery: https://ocg.cancer.gov/programs/ctd2).

The findings identified in the previous 5 samples, have been confirmed in additional 4 new samples! The Figure above illustrates all the drugs tested, each drug is represented by a dot for each case.  The orange dots point to the drug that appears effective across all neuroblastoma samples. These results suggest that the new drug might have therapeutic potential for genetically different neuroblastoma cases.

There is still much to do to analyze individual cases, where additional drugs may emerge!  We are also eager to confirm that the effect of this new metabolism linked drug could cure Avatar mice with neuroblastoma. We will keep you updated!

Thank you for your invaluable support! This work depends on your generosity. We would not have been able to reach these significant milestones without you; we hope you will continue to walk with us on the road to cure Neuroblastoma.
