Dear Cure First and Project Neuroblastoma Supporters,
In May, I had the incredible opportunity to present my work at the bi-annual meeting of the Advances in Neuroblastoma Research Association (ANRA) in San Francisco, where the most recent discoveries and the most advanced technologies applicable in the neuroblastoma (NB) field are presented and discussed. It was a great honor and learning experience for me to be surrounded by internationally respected experts on NB and to be able to discuss with them the next steps of our project.
During a panel discussion following my presentation, our plans to move forward with the mouse validation were strongly supported by our collaborators at Children Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Thanks to your support, which allowed us to purchase the amount of our candidate drug needed for the treatment of 5 mice, and thanks to the mouse facility located at CHOP and to Dr. John Maris’s team, who were dedicated in treating the mice daily, we were able to perform this exciting experiment. The trial was started in July and the results and their interpretation will be ready soon!
While waiting for the results of the in vivo validation, I performed, in vitro, a combinatorial screen (a clinical library of 135 drugs +/- our candidate drug) with the same NB model in order to identify potential combinations that will boost the effectiveness of our selected drug.
It is well known that to fight cancer, which is a complex entity carrying many somatic and/or germline mutations, a single agent treatment cannot be the ultimate solution. That’s why we are investigating synergistic combinations.
Thanks for all your priceless support.
