Conservation of Indian Pangolin, Update July 2018

We are filled with gratitude to the donors for committing to the conservation of Indian Pangolin. Also, we are thankful to the Global Giving for providing the platform to spread a word about conservation work and fundraising.
Pangolin Survey
- A questionnaire survey in 216 villages of Khed block Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra is in progress. A Survey in Shingari, Dahivali, Birmani and kalmani village of Ratnagiri and Ombali village in Ploadpur of Raigadh district survey is in progress.
- There was good support of the local villagers and connected with a local guide of shingari, dahivali, birmani, kalmani village of Ratnagiri as well as Ombali village in Poladpur of Raigadh.
- In the month of July Total 1069 camera days completed with the use of 27 Trail Cameras out of which in last 30 days from 4 fields 9 cameras data was retrieved Indian Pangolin evidence was found 2 times at two different field sites.
- Continuously using Android App for the recording of the trail camera survey information and maintain the Data. This is very useful for the collecting information like location, date, time and other details of the trail camera survey.
Awareness Drives
- Sahyadri Nisarg Mitra has to Continue distribution of Indian pangolin pamphlets in Marathi (Local language) highlighting the urgency of protecting the Indian Pangolin and habitat.
- The pamphlets were distributed into schools to increase the awareness involving school teachers and students.
- Schools student set up the innovative play for the awareness among the locals and schools about the importance of Indian pangolin.
- Sahyadri Nisarg Mitra has continued conducting meetings and interaction with local communities to spread the importance of conservation of Indian Pangolin.
- New boards (4 Ft X 3 Ft) have been installed at various prominent locations in the project area to aware local peoples and visitor to the places.

Pangolin Survey
- A questionnaire survey in 216 villages of Khed block Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra was is in progress. There was good support of the local villagers and very helpful during questionnaire survey.
- The Indian Pangolin evidence found in April, May and June 2018. Total 1038 camera days completed with the use of 27 Trail Cameras in which pangolin was sighted 2 times and 1 active nest were found.
- Continuously using Android App for the recording of the trail camera survey information and maintain the Data. This is very useful for the collecting information like location, date, time and other details of the trail camera survey.
Awareness drives
- Workshop and awareness program was conducted on 2nd of May 2018 at Shinde Guruji Hall, Lal Katta, Dapoli town in Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra in which peoples from 176 Villages, Each Villages Sarpanch (Village head), Police Patil (Representative of Police in the Village) and President Tanta Mukti Committee (committee for dispute-free village), Dapoli police team, Forest Department team and Sahyadri Nisarg Mitra had taken Oath to protect Indian pangolin and habitat of pangolin.
- A lecture was given on Indian Pangolin by Mr. Bhau Katdare on 5th May 2018 at Wildlife Conservation – Story and Soreness organized by Maharashtra Seva Sangh, Girimitra Vibhag in Mulund (West), Mumbai, Maharashtra.
- Sahyadri has Continued distributing special pamphlets in Marathi (Local language) highlighting the urgency of protecting the Indian Pangolin and habitat has been designed.
- Sahyadri Nisarg Mitra has continued conducting meetings and interaction with local communities to spread the importance of conservation of Indian Pangolin.
- Total 40 numbers of awareness boards (4 Ft X 3 Ft) have been installed at various prominent locations in the project area.

Conservation of Indian Pangolin, Update Jan-Mar 18

Pangolin Survey
- Found the evidence of the Indian Pangolin in the month of January, February and March 2018 in some of the villages. There was good support of the local villagers. Total 947 camera days were completed with the use of 25 Trail Cameras.
- Continuously using Android App for the recording of the trail camera survey information and maintain the Data. This is very useful for the collecting information like location, date, time and other details of the trail camera survey.
- Results of Trap Cameras –
1. Total camera days: 947 Days
2. No. of time pangolin sighted: 7 Times
3. No. of active nests: 13 Active nests
4. Total board installed: 60 boards
Awareness drives
- Sahyadri Nisarga Mitra has celebrated the “World Pangolin Day 2018” on 17th Feb. 2018. Because World Pangolin Day is an opportunity for pangolin enthusiasts to join together in raising awareness about these unique mammals. In order to raise the awareness and to highlight its importance to the locals, World Pangolin Day held at Shringartali village on 17th February 2018. Sahyadri Nisarga Mitra, Maharashtra police and Maharashtra forest department jointly organized this event for Guhaghar taluka in this year.
- On the occasion of world pangolin day, a drawing competition was held in Z.P. School Chikhali, Taluka Guhaghar District Ratnagiri. Students actively participated in this competition and enjoyed a lot. They draw many pictures of pangolins and successfully with enthusiastic feel it was taken over.
- A public awareness camp was organized by Sahyadri Nisarga Mitra in the dated on 4, 2018 to 10 January 2018, in “Lion Mohotsav 2018” for the awareness of Indian pangolins.
- Sahyadri has continued conducting meetings and interaction with local communities to spread the importance of conservation of Indian Pangolin.
- Total 40 awareness boards (4 Ft X 3 Ft) have been installed at the prominent locations in the project area.
