By the time of this report, we were hoping to share some good news about our grant application with the Africa Energy Challenge Fund. We are waiting to hear final words from AECF by the end of this month.
With this grant award, VIP will launch its social enterprise, Liberia Eco-Supply Ventures, and set up a modern factory in Liberia to assemble high-quality efficient rocket stoves.
Clean cooking is an energy issue, a health issue, an environmental issue, and a women’s empowerment issue in Liberia. Addressing this challenge requires educating households, institutions, and businesses, creating demand, developing new distribution models, and changing practices ingrained over centuries. Liberia Eco-Supply Ventures, Inc., a Village Improvement Project social enterprise, seeks to replace the three-stone open fire cooking method with improved fuel-efficient stoves for school feeding programs, hospitals, hotels, and restaurants in urban, peri-urban and rural communities in Liberia. These stoves will come in three sizes (20L, 60L, and 100L) capable of feeding 100 to 700 people a day.
