Summary

Hurricane Idalia is the strongest storm to make landfall in Florida's Big Bend region in more than 125 years. The powerful hurricane brought catastrophic and record-breaking storm surge, flooding, and damaging winds to Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas. Challenge

Hurricane Idalia damaged thousands of homes and businesses in Florida. Families have lost their homes, and some communities remain inaccessible because of damage to roads and bridges. Hundreds of thousands of people were left without power in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas.

Solution

All donations to this fund will support relief and recovery efforts throughout Florida and other affected communities. These efforts will be led by GlobalGiving's network of vetted partners in the region. Initially, the fund will help first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, and shelter. Once initial relief work is complete, this fund will transition to support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted local organizations.

How Your Donation Will Be Used

When you donate to GlobalGiving's Hurricane Idalia Relief Fund, your donation will be used to:

  • Provide food, water, and emergency medical supplies to people and animals
  • Support temporary relief and emergency supplies for displaced families
  • Provide support to frontline workers
  • Meet other needs that emerge

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
