Chamber Music Northwest served over 2,000 individuals of all ages during our third annual Winter Festival, Masterpieces Reimagined, which ran from January 27 through February 2, 2016. Six concerts in five different venues filled the week, along with a bonus collaborative concert with Portland’5 Center for the Performing Arts and several educational events. CMNW artists were also featured in a live performance broadcast on 89.9 FM All Classical radio.
Portland Youth Philharmonic’s Camerata chamber orchestra played a starring role in our Winter Festival. The week began with four hours of coaching sessions with CMNW festival artists Steven Tenenbom (viola) and Daniel Phillips (violin) for the 19 PYP students. The PYP ensemble gave a special performance prior to two of CMNW’s Winter Festival concerts, introducing their excellent musicianship to CMNW patrons. The student musicians then attended the CMNW performances, and were featured in their own concert on Sunday, January 31.
CMNW held a masterclass for harp students with master teacher Nancy Allen, principal harpist of the New York Philharmonic. Three accomplished young students performed and received coaching from Ms. Allen before an audience. Over 150 people attended the free-of-charge Brahms Open Rehearsal, during which patrons observed the rehearsal process and asked questions of the musicians.
The 46th Annual Summer Festival, featuring the complete cycle of Beethoven’s string quartets, was announced on January 31, and full information is now on our website. The five-week festival will include more than 50 concerts and dozens of education and community engagement activities.
You make these incredible programs possible. Thank you so much for your partnership and investment in Chamber Music Northwest!
