The Gift of Hearing

By Tina Moira | Project Leader

Sasha is happy he can hear
Sasha is happy he can hear

In early childhood, our sense of hearing plays a crucial role, providing the basis for speech and communication skills.

Through our partner at Love Without Borders we helped a little boy hear.

Sasha (5 years old) was brought to Kiev rehabilitation centre from Cherkassy region. He was born deaf and had a cochlear implant installed when he was 2.  He didn’t have any progress through all these years and we hoped for good results for Sasha.

But as it was found out during the audiogram, his sound processor has been broken and he couldn’t hear anything for a long time as no one noticed the problem. A repair costs about £300. When a hearing device doesn’t work or works incorrectly a child with a cochlear implant can’t hear sounds or can hear them incorrect and he becomes unresponsive to a learning process. We decided to help Sasha and pay for the repair and tuning of his cochlear implant.

One month has passed after Sasha’s sound processor was repaired.  And here is what Sasha's mum wrote:

We all are very well. We count now up to 10 and backwards. Sasha can write and hear numbers up to 99 and he always want to write big numbers. He finishes exercise books very quickly and ask for another one. We also work at word pronunciation so that he can pronounce them correctly. That is our progress so far. After your charity helped us, even my husband noticed that Sasha started to learn quicker and has a much better progress”.

It’s the beginning of a new future for Sasha. Without your help this would not have been possible

We are truly thankful for your support.
