Dear Supporter,

Play is especially important for a child’s development, as amongst many benefits it is a way for children to express themselves and adapt into new circumstances.

Children in Ukraine play in the shadow of war, they need a sense of normality as it is crucial for their psychology.

When our partner sent us these photos, we were so happy children were able to be offered some carefree moments.

It is an oxymoron to watch the children leave the shelter to go to Summer Camp, but they need some sense of normality in their life.

It is hard to keep the faith under these circumstances, war, uncertainty, fear and so many feeling erupt. However, small things do matter, a toy, help with food, art therapy and now Summer Camps.

For many children, the mood and psychology on the first day of camping compared to the last day was completely different.

Around 60 children will have the chance to play, laugh and for a short while be able to forget about the war…at least until the sirens sound, and they must seek refuge in the make-piece shelter made in the basement of our centre.

The children and parents were thankful for this opportunity.

Thanks to your kind support, this was possible.

Thank you for your generosity

With gratitude

Dear Supporter,

Through our partners, we are working hard to support refugees and people remaining in Ukraine.

Moldova

Moldova is one of the first countries in the refugee pathway with thousands of children and women, elderly people with poor health seeking shelter and accommodation, care and food.

In Moldova, we have been providing mothers with their children with essential items such as nappies, slippers, warm clothing, clean underwear, personal hygiene, and hygiene products. They also guide mums who need paediatricians for their children, providing information and helping them with appointments.

Our partner Ora temporarily suspended their work at the Children's Day Centre's to provide accommodation and support to the refugees arriving in the country. Whilst Esther House is back operating, Ora, Moldova is still providing accommodation and food, hygiene products, medical and psychological help, books, school supplies and toys for the children. They will also provide transportation for the refugees and work with Elderly Houses to support elderly refugees.

Ukraine

The Little Lighthouse Rehabilitation Centre

At the moment the Centre does not operate, but they are providing accommodation for people who do not have a shelter.

Escaping war isn't an easy option for many disabled children and their families, Makariv is one of the epicentres of heavy fighting, lots of ruins everywhere, the town is constantly under shelling and is completely destroyed, houses of the families with disabled children who we support have been totally destroyed. Through volunteers, our partner is helping families move to a safer place.

''Most people in Ukraine simply do not have the resources to make any significant food supplies, with at least 60% of the population living in poverty. Long lines at supermarkets and pharmacies occur daily during the lulls in air raid sirens. ''London Politica, Report for ChildAid

Children's Hearts

We are supporting families with food supplies and hygiene products. So many people have lost their homes and live in shelters. Our partner is there for the families and the children. The children who need comfort and lots of love and reassurance that the future will be brighter, and the war will end. She provides art sessions to help children cope with their emotions and something to remind them they are still children like a cuddly toy, crayons to draw and sweets.

Thanks to the love and kindness of our supporters, we can help people escape or survive the war and ease children’s pain.  We pray for this war to end, but we know our path is long, as there is much more to be done.

Thank you for your kind donations, and thank you for making our work possible.

Supporting families in Donbass region
Supporting families in Donbass region

Through our projects we are supporting children who are living in poverty orphans, and those living with physical and intellectual disability in Eastern Europe.

In Ukraine, we support projects that bring hope to vulnerable families  and children, to internally placed refugees and people living in the Donbass region, we help children who have been traumatized by the continuous conflict in the region.

We also support projects that help children living with disabilities in the Makariv a region, up until recently children with disabilities had no access to rehabilitation therapies and had to travel into and beyond Kiev (a round trip of over 7 hours). The Little Lighthouse opened only a few months ago and has already transformed the life of vulnerable disabled children.

We had stories of children walking for the first time, the wonderful story of an autistic child- Borysko that interacted for the first time with people outside his family at the age of 12. His diagnosis, severe autism.  He could not eat or dress on his own. He will be shouting and screaming loud almost constantly. That was his response to almost everything. He was very aggressive towards his parents, but everything changed after just 4 months of intensive therapy.

He is now able to follow instructions , learned his ABC’s and is a different child. Very recently, he played football with his father, something that his father never expected to happen.

Thanks to the dedicated work of the staff at The Little Lighthouse, his parents can now dream that one day he might be able to live an independent life.

Thanks to your kind support, this family can dream of a better future for their child.

Thank you for making our work possible

At ChildAid we support projects that give children and families hope and a better chance in life.

Very often families in Ukraine and Moldova are facing dilemmas between buying foodmedicines or wood. When temperatures reach -20 Celsius heating is essential in order to survive.

Recently the Ministry of Social Protection contacted our partner in Transnistria to help this family.

Sophia is a single mother who cares for her children and elderly parents.

She was struggling to make ends meet. She was starting to feel pressure and uncertainty about the future.

We helped with food and prepared the documents, so she can receive benefits as a single mother. She didn’t know how to complete the documents or that she could receive support.

She has been touched by the kindness of our partner and tearfully thanked everyone.

Simple things like food and assistance with paperwork can help change a person’s attitude towards life. Sophia is more positive and dreams of a better future for her family.

Thanks to your kind donations we can give hope to families who are struggling and children a good and healthy childhood.

Children are enjoying Summer Camp
Children are enjoying Summer Camp

Dear Supporter,

The COVID -19 pandemic has left so many vulnerable children stranded at home, missing their friends and playing with other children.

Through our projects, we want children to be able to enjoy their childhood without having to worry about their basic needs. That’s the reason Summer Camps, and special summer activities, are organized by our partners so that children can enjoy some time away from their troubles and worries.

Our partner Children’s Hearts, Ukraine organized Summer Camps for the children attending the centre. Most of the children will not go anywhere for holidays this summer, their families can barely afford the basics.

However, when they came to our partners camp, they had the opportunity to have fun, play and be children. They enjoyed various activities, from crafts, dancing, cookie making, sleeping under the stars, to swimming at the centre’s swimming pool (for some of them it was the first time)

Thanks to your generous support, we can help less fortunate children and give them carefree moments.

Thank you.
