What is the best thing that has happened in your life?

Shalini (name changed) says that the best thing that has happened in her life is coming to Asharan orphanage!

If an orphanage is the best place for a 7 year old child, what about the outside world! What about her family and relatives! In Shalini’s words, everyone outside are bad except her “Mausa” whom she used to meet on Rakhi festivals.  She came to Asharan along with her 4 years old brother.

Shalini and her brother Nitin (name changed) grew up seeing their alcoholic father physically abusing their mother. Her father passed away in an accident; her mother left the house one day and never returned. Shalini, at a tender age learned to cook food, wash clothes and clean her house. Though her paternal uncles took them home, he too abandoned them after a couple of months.  With the help of police and the Child Welfare committee, both children are now placed in Asharan for their Care and protection. They are learning obedience, how to follow rules etc. along with academics. They feel safe, accepted & loved at Asharan.

Asharan Orphanage is a home for young children and babies who are abandoned and lost. Asharan has sheltered and cared for 33 such children this quarter, including infants, toddlers and children with special needs. The quality care, treatment and education of these children largely depends on the contributions that we receive from the generous and good hearted people like you. So let us continue our support.

Special thanks to all of you who have helped 59 children this year to have another chance to live under love and safety. Among them, we have children who are abandoned for unknown reasons, few who are relinquished by mothers due to their inability to care for their child, few who are the lost children and few who got orphaned due to death of their parents. There are also few who are with us for short term care until their parents become capable of caring for them.

You have helped them to regain their health, re live their childhood; you have helped them with their education, medical and hospital treatment; we were able to have loving caregivers round the clock to care for them as they are of age between infancy to 6 years; few of them being differently able children. You have helped us to give therapies and care to such children. We were able to find the families of 14 lost children this year. We were also able to place 15 children with loving adoptive families.

Without your help we couldn’t have done all these. We look forward to your continued support as the needs are so many. Help us so that more and more homeless children could be helped in the year 2018 also.
